The Fêtes de Tyrosse: tradition and conviviality

The Fêtes de Saint-Vincent-de-Tyrosse, more familiarly known as Fêtes de Tyrosse, are among the most popular local festivals on the Landes coast. Every year at the end of July, this commune of nearly 8,000 inhabitants located between Dax and Bayonne comes alive for four days of festivities mixing bullfighting traditions, live shows, and popular entertainment.

A quality bullfighting program

Saint-Vincent-de-Tyrosse has municipal bullrings that host a complete bullfighting program during the festival:

  • The formal Landes race on Friday evening, showcasing the skills of the 'écarteurs' and 'sauteurs' in their art of evasion against Landes cows.
  • The festival corrida on Saturday evening, a flagship event with renowned matadors on the French circuit.

These bullfighting events are part of a long tradition that makes Tyrosse one of the recognized bullfighting centers in the Landes.

Festival Highlights

The Fêtes de Tyrosse program is marked by key moments:

  • Opening 'yémé' and children's day on Thursday, with dedicated activities for the youngest.
  • Giant picnic under the shade of century-old plane trees, a moment of sharing and conviviality.
  • Grand parade in costume through the town streets, with decorated floats and folk groups.
  • Guinguette and popular dances in the evening.
  • Sunday show in the open air.
  • Fireworks display concluding the festivities in a colorful finale.

A festival between the ocean and traditions

Located on the Bayonne-Dax axis, a few kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean, Saint-Vincent-de-Tyrosse benefits from a privileged geographical position that makes it a crossroads between the Landes coast and the hinterland. Its festivals reflect this dual identity: the festive and relaxed spirit of the coast blends with the deep traditions of Landes and Gascon culture.

A unifying event

The Fêtes de Tyrosse are driven by strong associative and citizen involvement. The 'bodégas' and 'estanquets', run by local associations, are the vibrant heart of the festival. It is a special time for reunions and sharing for the people of Tyrosse and visitors, in an authentic atmosphere that is the charm of Landes village festivals.
