The village festival between the ocean and the Landes forest
The Fêtes de Bénesse-Maremne liven up this Landes village located between Capbreton and Dax every summer for three to four days of popular festivities. Organized by the Foyer Rural, they offer a friendly program combining concerts by the Harmonie Bénéssoise, country meals, scooter races, pétanque tournaments, musical aperitifs, dance evenings, and fireworks. These village festivals celebrate local community life in a warm and authentically Landes atmosphere.
Located in the Maremne, this strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and the Landes forest, the commune of Bénesse-Maremne celebrates its village festivals every summer with the conviviality that characterizes small Landes villages. For three to four days, this village of about 3,000 inhabitants, located a few kilometers from Capbreton and Soustons, comes alive to the rhythm of festive events organized by the Foyer Rural in collaboration with local associations.
The Harmonie Bénéssoise, the village's brass band, plays a central role in the festivities. Present from the official opening on the old fronton square, it livens up aperitifs, meals, and parades through the streets. This local musical group embodies the tradition of Landes musical societies and brings an authentic touch to the celebrations. Concerts by young local talents complete the musical program, showcasing the artistic rising stars of the region.
The festival meals are a highlight of the Bénesse festivities. The Saturday lunchtime tapas aperitif, organized jointly by the Foyer Rural and the village's shopkeepers, is a moment of friendly sharing. The traditional moules-frites meal, organized on Saturday evening by local sports associations, brings together hundreds of guests in a warm atmosphere. The Monday lunchtime garbure-concert aperitif, with its garbure served outdoors accompanied by live music, is another emblematic moment of these festivals.
The festival program includes numerous sports and recreational activities. The Saturday afternoon pétanque tournament attracts players from all over the region. The Saturday late afternoon scooter race is a popular spectacle that brings together all generations. Children's games, inflatable structures, and street entertainment complete the family-friendly aspect of the festivities.
The evenings of the Fêtes de Bénesse-Maremne are enlivened by live bands, DJ sets, and popular dances that continue until the early morning. The fireworks, launched from the center of the village, light up the Bénesse sky and are a unifying moment for the entire community. The musical aperitif with groups like the Pong Orchestra sets the mood for the festival-goers before the main evening meals.
The Fêtes de Bénesse-Maremne demonstrate the vitality of the associative fabric of this Landes commune. The Foyer Rural, the BOSC football club, and sports and cultural associations mobilize to offer a festive program accessible to all. These village festivals perpetuate a tradition of conviviality and sharing specific to the communes of the Landes Maremne.
The festivals take place in the center of the village of Bénesse-Maremne (40230), around the old fronton square and the village hall. Bénesse-Maremne is located 7 km from Capbreton and 5 km from Soustons.
The festivals are held every year in July, generally over three to four days around the first or second weekend. In 2025, they were scheduled from July 4th to 7th (some sources indicate July 12th and 13th).
Meals are offered by local associations: tapas on Saturday lunchtime, moules-frites on Saturday evening, garbure on Monday lunchtime. Drink stands are open throughout the festival.
