Historical show in the heart of the medieval fortress
The Baladins du Comté de Taillebourg are a troupe of actors who have been telling, in an original and bold way, the great events and characters that have shaped the history of this medieval fortress perched on its rocky spur, overlooking the Charente and its valley.
For five evenings, the Baladins present their new show "From Drakkar to Chariots" where Landry, Count of Saintes, and Harald, a Viking who stayed in Taillebourg in 845, clash over a mysterious object with absolute powers. Their battles propel them into a temporal whirlwind towards unknown eras, in the heart of a suffering France.
For the third year, the Sites en Scène label ranks them among the 30 essential summer events in Charente-Maritime. The Baladins offer the possibility to dine on site before the show with a friendly and rustic menu made exclusively from local products. Free entertainment is also offered alongside the show for the pleasure of young and old.
Les Baladins du Comté de Taillebourg return from July 23 to 27, 2026, with their grand historical night show in the heart of the medieval castle park, in Charente-Maritime. Five evenings of open-air theatre, labeled Sites en Scène, performed by a troupe of volunteer actors, centered around the trial of Jacques Cœur.
For this new creation, Les Baladins du Comté de Taillebourg present the final installment of their trilogy. The show is set against the backdrop of the famous trial of Jacques Cœur, the King's treasurer, arrested in Taillebourg in 1451. Through the intertwined destinies of Harald and Landry — two childhood friends who became enemies across centuries —, the troupe explores themes of justice, vengeance, and redemption, blending judicial intrigue, time travel, and a mysterious quest.
The show, lasting approximately 90 minutes, is performed outdoors in the exceptional setting of the Taillebourg castle park, a medieval fortress perched on its rocky spur overlooking the Charente. Dynamic staging, period costumes, and meticulous visual effects appeal to audiences of all ages.
For the second consecutive year, the show is labeled Sites en Scène by the Département de la Charente-Maritime, which recognizes the region's summer heritage events. A dinner option is available on site before the performance, as well as free parallel activities.
From Thursday, July 23 to Monday, July 27, 2026, five evenings of performances.
