Medieval festivals at the Château de la Faye in Olmet
The Medieval Festival of Olmet, also known as the Medieval Festival of La Faye, is a historical reenactment event that takes place at the Château de la Faye, a 13th-century fortified site located in the commune of Olmet-et-Villecun in Puy-de-Dôme. Organized by the FAYEssociation, this festival offers a dive into the medieval world through three periods of French history (15th, 17th, and 19th centuries), with historical encampments, armored combat, equestrian jousting, falconry shows, demonstrations of ancient crafts, archery, and nocturnal pyrotechnic shows, as well as a market of local producers. The rural setting and the historical site offer an immersive experience for the whole family.
The Château de la Faye is a 13th-century fortress located in the commune of Olmet-et-Villecun, in Livradois, about forty kilometers southeast of Clermont-Ferrand. This remarkable historical site, nestled in a preserved rural setting, offers an ideal backdrop for medieval festivals. The FAYEssociation, which manages and animates the castle, organizes these medieval days to bring the heritage to life and share the history of the place with the general public.
The originality of the Medieval Festival of La Faye lies in the presentation of three periods of French history: the 15th century, the 17th century, and the 19th century. Three distinct historical encampments are recreated by specialized companies, allowing visitors to travel through time and compare the lifestyles, combat techniques, and artisanal know-how of each era. Armored combat, sword duels, and troop maneuvers animate the encampments throughout the day.
Equestrian shows are one of the highlights of the event. The Compagnie Equid'Events offers demonstrations of high-level dressage, knightly tournaments with jousting, and acrobatic performances. On Saturday evening, a nocturnal equestrian show with pyrotechnics and fire concludes the first day in style. The Compagnie Esprit Fauconnerie presents raptor flight demonstrations, allowing visitors to admire falcons, buzzards, and owls in flight above the castle.
Visitors can try their hand at archery with the Compagnie les Archers de Saint-Loup, discover ancient trades in the medieval craft workshops, and browse the medieval market featuring local artisans and producers. A tavern offers on-site catering in the spirit of the era. Live medieval music and dances complete the festive atmosphere.
The Medieval Festival of La Faye 2026 is expected on the third weekend of July at the Château de la Faye in Olmet, with the usual program of historical reenactments, equestrian shows, and falconry.
