Gastronomic celebration of the strawberry and its world records
The Strawberry Festival takes place every year in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne on the second Sunday of May, since 1989. This event celebrates the strawberry, a flagship product of the southern Corrèze production basin. The region produces about 400 tons of strawberries per year on 30 hectares, thanks to a mild and favorable climate that earns Beaulieu the nickname "Limousin Riviera". The festival attracts between 10,000 and 15,000 visitors each year, who come to discover or rediscover this delicious fruit and the accompanying entertainment.
The Strawberry Festival holds two Guinness World Records: for the largest strawberry tart and for the longest strawberry roulade cake, measuring 32 meters. These spectacular achievements are prepared with hundreds of kilos of local strawberries and require the mobilization of many volunteers. They are the highlight of the day and attract the attention of the media and visitors, contributing to the event's fame far beyond the borders of Corrèze.
The festival runs from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Place Marbot, in the heart of Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne. Visitors can browse the stalls of local producers offering fresh strawberries, jams, syrups, pastries, and other local products. Artisans and shopkeepers complement the offerings with local crafts and original creations. Musical entertainment, street performances, and workshops for children punctuate the day, creating a festive and friendly atmosphere.
Strawberry cultivation in the southern Corrèze benefits from a particularly favorable microclimate, with mild temperatures and suitable rainfall. The varieties grown (Gariguette, Ciflorette, Mara des Bois) are renowned for their taste quality. The Strawberry Festival contributes to the promotion of this local production and the valorization of the know-how of Corrèze producers, while also enhancing the tourist appeal of Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne and the Dordogne Valley.
