The great chestnut festival in Corrèze
The Beynat Chestnut and Marron Festival has become an unmissable autumn event in Corrèze. Organized by the Beynat Chestnut Festival organizing committee, this event celebrates the richness of the local terroir and promotes chestnut production, particularly the famous "blanchie de Beynat" which benefits from the Origine Corrèze label.
On the Market Square, about ten local producers present their fresh chestnuts, marrons, and a wide range of derivative products. Visitors can discover and purchase jams, chestnut creams, flours, and many other artisanal specialties made from this emblematic fruit of Corrèze.
The festival's program is rich and varied. Regional authors are present to sign their books, and musical and folk shows liven up the village streets. Brotherhoods parade in traditional costumes and offer initiations to visitors. Miss Limousin and her runners-up regularly honor the event with their presence.
Food lovers are not forgotten with the sale of grilled chestnuts, chestnut cakes, crepes, apple juice, and fast-food stands. An official festival menu is offered in the gymnasium for a convivial meal.
For nature and heritage enthusiasts, guided hikes are organized in the morning (9:30 AM - 12 PM) with chestnut tasting and discovery of local flora and fauna. In the afternoon (2:30 PM - 5 PM), heritage tours allow visitors to discover the old village of Beynat and the chestnut basket museum, testaments to the historical importance of this tree in the region.
The star of the festival remains undoubtedly the blanchie de Beynat, a local chestnut variety recognized for its exceptional quality and protected by the Origine Corrèze label. This white, sweet, and flavorful chestnut is the pride of Beynat producers.
