Cradle of the Marbot walnut in Corrèze
Every two years, on the first Sunday of October, Saillac celebrates the Marbot walnut, a local variety of which the village has been the cradle since the 14th century. This biennial festival features demonstrations of walnut oil production, walnut wine tastings, a gourmet market, rural entertainment, and a country meal in a friendly atmosphere.
The small village of Saillac, with 203 inhabitants in Corrèze, is intimately linked to the history of the Marbot walnut. This exceptional variety of walnut has been present in the region since the 14th century and is the pride of local producers. The Fête de la Noix, organized every two years (even years) on the first Sunday of October, celebrates this unique gastronomic heritage.
The Fête de la Noix de Saillac only takes place every two years, making it an even more anticipated and precious event. The 2024 edition was the 16th, and the next one, in 2026, will be the 17th. This periodicity allows the team of volunteers to prepare each edition with care and to offer a constantly renewed program.
The highlight of the festival remains the demonstrations of on-site walnut oil production. Visitors can observe the traditional process of pressing walnuts and leave with freshly produced oil. Tastings of walnut wine, a local liqueur, allow visitors to discover all facets of this emblematic fruit.
From 8:30 am, a gourmet market takes over the village square with local producers and sellers of walnut-based products: oil, kernels, cakes, preserves. Technical stands present the tools and methods for cultivating and processing walnuts.
The festive area offers a vintage carousel for children, street entertainment, a cultural space, a flea market, and a garage sale. Chainsaw wood carving demonstrations impress young and old alike.
For outdoor enthusiasts, a hiking trail through the walnut orchards is organized. The rural meal, served at noon in a friendly atmosphere, allows visitors to taste local specialties and share an authentic moment with the inhabitants of Saillac.
The 17th edition of the Fête de la Noix de Saillac will be held on October 4, 2026. A biennial event to celebrate the Marbot walnut, the historic cradle of this exceptional variety.
