Gastronomic festival of chestnut and cèpe in Villefranche-du-Périgord
Every third weekend of October, the bastide of Villefranche-du-Périgord celebrates autumn flavors through its Chestnut and Cèpe Festival. Organized by the association La Bastide du Périgord Noir, this event highlights two emblematic products of Périgord gastronomy.
The program spans two days with numerous activities: a chestnut market and regional products (garlic, cognac, prunes, cheeses, jams), a stone spitting contest registered in the Guinness Book of Records, a chestnut rally, traditional gathering contests, and themed meals in local restaurants.
Folk entertainment is provided by the group Croquants d'Escornabou. The festival also includes a sung mass by the local choir, solemn ceremonies of the Confrérie de la Châtaigne, a free visit to the Maison de la Châtaigne, as well as craft demonstrations: basket weaving, woodturning, and fresh apple juice pressing.
The Chestnut and Cèpe Festival returns to Villefranche-du-Périgord on the third weekend of October 2026. Chestnut market, stone spitting contest, chestnut rally, and folk entertainment will be on the program for this new edition. Details and program to be confirmed.
