Fête de la Châtaigne — edition 2026
The date for the 2026 autumn producers' market has not been announced as of mid-August 2026. Historically, the event has always taken place on a Saturday in October, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Jardin du Moulinassou, as seen in previous years: October 18, 2014, October 16, 2021, October 19, 2024, and October 18, 2025.
2026 Edition
As of mid-August 2026, the date for the autumn producers' market has not been announced anywhere—neither on the Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche town website nor on the calendar of the Pays de Saint-Yrieix tourist office, which co-organizes the event with the Saveurs et Terroir du Pays de Saint-Yrieix association. No program has been released either.
The association remains active, however, with its festive summer markets held at the Parc du Moulinassou throughout July and August 2026. While past autumn editions have consistently been held on a Saturday in October from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., no official source has confirmed the date for 2026. For inquiries, you can contact the Pays de Saint-Yrieix tourist office at 05 55 08 20 72.
Please note that this should not be confused with the Tech Châtaigne trade fair, a professional event for the industry organized by the chestnut producers' union. Its 7th edition will take place on September 18 and 19, 2026, at the A. Guillaumin agricultural high school in La Faye, rather than at the Moulinassou.

A farmers' market at the Moulinassou garden
The Saveurs et Terroir du Pays de Saint-Yrieix association hosts festive markets at the Moulinassou park on Thursday evenings throughout July and August. In the autumn, they organize a daytime edition from 9 am to 6 pm in collaboration with the Pays de Saint-Yrieix tourist office: the autumn farmers' market.
On the stalls
Local products from the Saint-Yrieix region take center stage: sweet and savory madeleines, honey, vegetables, cheeses, and chestnuts. Apples are the star of the day, with fresh juice being pressed by the Confrérie de la pomme du Limousin and an exhibition of heritage varieties presented by Jacques Trouvat. The La Faye agricultural high school will also be showcasing its processed goods.
Dining
The dining area serves chestnut blood sausage, ratatouille, rillettes, trout, and fries, all available to enjoy on-site.
A market supporting Octobre Rose
In recent years, promotional sales of apples and juice have been organized to benefit breast cancer research as part of the Octobre Rose campaign. The Barbarédiens team sells pumpkin soup for the same cause, and the Lions Club's "La Boucle Rose" hike departs from the market at 2:45 pm.
Chestnuts in the Saint-Yrieix region
The chestnut tree is the iconic tree of the Limousin region, and its fruit was long the staple of the local diet. In 1698, the intendant of Limousin noted that the region was covered in chestnut forests, with the fruit serving as the primary food source for the inhabitants; the term "bread tree" was coined in 1842 by Colonel Dumas. In 2011, Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche won the title of the town with the best gourmet offering among the "100 Plus Beaux Détours de France." The area is also known for its Cul Noir pork, raised outdoors in chestnut groves, and the Bijou madeleines, a family business operating since 1845.
