Moûtiers' heritage enhanced by light
The Festival Region of Lights is an initiative by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region aimed at rediscovering the exceptional heritage of its cities through free sound and light shows. Since 2019, over 57 shows in 42 different cities have been presented to more than three million spectators across the region.
In 2024, Moûtiers is hosting this prestigious festival for the first time, joining cities like Lyon, Vienne, and Valence among the illuminated cities. The facade of the Town Hall, an emblematic building in the historic center, serves as a giant screen for the projections.
A 3D scenography by Les Allumeurs de Rêves
The show projected in Moûtiers is a creation of the association Les Allumeurs de Rêves, specialists in video mapping and monumental shows. The scenography, inspired by the Art Deco style of Roger Pétriaux, deploys colorful 3D images on the town hall facade to tell the story of Tarentaise.
From the Roman foundation of Darantasia to the development of major ski resorts, through the industrial epic and the religious history of the former archbishopric, the show retraces in images and music the major stages that have shaped the valley. The visual effects, plays of perspective, and 3D animations create a striking immersive experience, enhancing the building's architecture.
A free summer event
The show is projected every evening from dusk until midnight for several weeks, offering strollers, residents, and tourists the opportunity to discover it at their own pace. Access is completely free, in line with the Festival Region of Lights' philosophy of making culture accessible to all.
The City of Moûtiers also organizes numerous events around the show – evening concerts, street entertainment, heritage guided tours – to extend the festive experience throughout the summer.
Moûtiers, crossroads of Tarentaise
Former capital of the Tarentaise archbishopric and a historic crossroads of the Alpine valleys, Moûtiers boasts rich but often overlooked architectural heritage. The Festival Region of Lights helps to promote this heritage to a wide audience, while boosting the city's summer tourist activity, which is usually busier in winter as the gateway to the Three Valleys resorts.
