Street Arts Festival in Langres
Created in 2021 by Compagnie Cirta, the Rue Cirta Festival takes over the courtyard of the Jean-Duvet school in Langres every summer for a weekend dedicated to street arts. The festival features street theater, clowning, circus, and acrobatics performances, accompanied by concerts, musical entertainment, and convivial moments with food and drinks. Open to all audiences, this festive and popular event highlights the richness of the performing arts in Haute-Marne.
Since 2021, the Rue Cirta Festival has transformed the courtyard of the Jean-Duvet school in Langres into an open-air stage dedicated to street arts. Organized by Compagnie Cirta, a theater company based in Langres, this festival was born from the desire to promote performing arts and the mix of artistic disciplines in the southern Haute-Marne region.
Compagnie Cirta aims to promote, transmit, and disseminate performing arts. The troupe favors physical theater, clowning, and street arts, with a particular interest in multicultural relationships and the artistic richness that results. The body and space are central to their artistic research. Led by Houari Bessadet (actor and director specializing in clowning, mask, and circus), Hakim Maraoui (actor, director, and playwright), and Maxime Collier (musician, actor, and technical manager), the company presents this festival as an annual highlight of its season.
Each edition of the Rue Cirta Festival hosts several guest companies presenting shows of street theater, clowning, circus, acrobatics, and puppetry. The performances are designed for a family audience, with shows accessible from age 5. Between performances, music and concerts liven up the evenings, making each edition a true moment of sharing and meeting between artists and spectators.
The first edition in 2021, limited to 150 spectators due to health regulations, was sold out. Since then, the festival has continued to grow: the second edition in 2022 enriched the program, the third in 2023 confirmed the event's broad popular success, and the fourth in 2024 used the Michel-Humbert theater for some performances. The fifth edition, in July 2025, will feature three shows over two days with companies from all over France.
The 6th edition of the Rue Cirta Festival is expected to take place in early July 2026 in the courtyard of the Jean-Duvet school in Langres. True to its two-day format, the festival will feature new street theater, clowning, and circus shows, accompanied by concerts and convivial entertainment. The full program will be announced in the spring of 2026.
The Rue Cirta Festival returns for its 6th edition in July 2026.
