Gastronomic and flea market festival celebrating the chestnut in Mâron
The Fête du Marron is a gastronomic and popular festival organized every third Sunday of October in Mâron, in the Indre region. Since 1993, the association Mâron en Fête has enlivened this festive day with grilled chestnuts, pressed apple juice, cinnamon mulled wine, and potato pancakes. A large flea market, folk groups, craft stands, and activities for the whole family complete the program. Free admission.
Every third Sunday of October, the village of Mâron comes alive for its famous Fête du Marron, a popular tradition that has brought together thousands of visitors since 1993. Organized by the association Mâron en Fête, this festive day celebrates grilled chestnuts in a friendly and warm atmosphere. The festival playfully plays on the homonymy between the village name and the fruit, as chestnut trees do not grow in this region with its limestone soil.
The festival stand offers the season's must-haves: grilled chestnuts, apple juice pressed on-site, cinnamon mulled wine, and hot potato pancakes. Visitors can eat on-site and taste the Berry specialties offered by exhibitors and local associations. The tons of chestnuts sold on this day come mainly from Éguzon, Ardèche, and other producing regions.
The Fête du Marron is also an opportunity for a large flea market that attracts many bargain hunters. Pitches are offered at a low price, and dozens of exhibitors set up in the village streets to offer antiques, collectibles, clothing, tableware, and various curiosities. Craft stands complete the offering with local creations and handmade products.
Folk groups liven up the day with traditional dances and music. Fairground rides and attractions are set up for the delight of children. The festival's refreshment stand and food stalls allow visitors to spend a whole day in a friendly atmosphere. The Fête du Marron has become an unmissable autumn event in the Berry region.
