Wine festival in one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France
Every last weekend of July, the village of Mittelbergheim — classified among the Most Beautiful Villages of France — comes alive for its traditional Wine Festival. On the Main Street lined with half-timbered houses, winemakers set up tables and benches to offer visitors tastings of Sylvaner, Riesling, and especially Grand Cru Zotzenberg. Tarte flambée, grilled sausages, and pastries accompany a festive atmosphere punctuated by regional music and an open-air popular ball.
Mittelbergheim, a small village of 700 souls perched on a slope of the Alsace Wine Route between Obernai and Sélestat, is classified among the Most Beautiful Villages of France. With its Renaissance half-timbered houses, flowery inner courtyards, and vaulted cellars, it offers a postcard-perfect setting for its traditional Wine Festival, celebrated for over half a century.
The Mittelbergheim vineyard is home to the Grand Cru Zotzenberg, unique for its recognition of the Sylvaner grape variety — an exceptional fact in the Alsatian wine landscape where Grand Crus are generally reserved for noble grape varieties. Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Gris complete the range of wines presented during the festival, offering tasters a complete panorama of the local terroir.
The festival unfolds along the Rue Principale, the village's central artery, where tables and benches are set up outdoors. Winemakers welcome visitors generously:
Despite the village's small size, the Fête du Vin de Mittelbergheim attracts several thousand visitors each year, seduced by the authenticity of the event, the quality of the wines, and the incomparable beauty of the setting. The official inauguration by the mayor on the town hall square kicks off the festivities on Saturday afternoon.
The 52nd edition of the Fête du Vin de Mittelbergheim is scheduled for July 25 and 26, 2026. The last weekend of July, the village classified as one of France's Most Beautiful Villages will host winemakers and visitors for a weekend of wine conviviality.
