The Fête Foraine d'Auxerre, a major spring event on the banks of the Yonne
Every spring, the city of Auxerre (89000) hosts its grand funfair, one of the most anticipated popular events of the year in the capital of the Yonne. Spinning rides, Ferris wheels, bumper cars, candy stalls, and all sorts of skill games take over Parc Roscoff and the parking lots of La Noue for several weeks, creating a true open-air festive city on the banks of the Yonne.
Attractions for all ages
The Auxerre funfair offers a wide range of attractions suitable for all audiences and all ages:
- Rides for toddlers: small carousels, caterpillar rides, children's bumper cars, wooden horses, and other gentle attractions for the youngest
- Major attractions for thrill-seekers: panoramic Ferris wheels, roller coasters, spinning rides, swing rides, and other spectacular attractions
- Stalls and skill games: shooting galleries, duck fishing, candy stalls, cotton candy, nougat, candy apples, and fair specialties
- Family attractions: ghost trains, haunted houses, mazes, and other attractions for a thrilling family experience
Parc Roscoff, the ideal setting for the fair
Parc Roscoff, located on the banks of the Yonne near the historic center of Auxerre, is one of the prime locations for the funfair. This green park, which also hosts spectators for the July 14th fireworks, transforms into a festive playground every spring. The funfair takes place here during the spring school holidays, before extending to other sites in the city like the La Noue parking lot.
The Foire d'Auxerre, the great spring fair
In parallel with the funfair, the city of Auxerre organizes its great Foire d'Auxerre every spring, a commercial and festive event that brings together exhibitors, merchants, and artisans under the halls of Auxerrexpo. This spring fair, whose 2025 edition was the 95th edition, is a major economic event for the region, bringing together a large number of visitors each year for stands featuring furniture, decoration, food, crafts, and services. The Saturday evening event with fireworks and a DJ is one of the fair's highlights.
Auxerre's festive spirit, a vibrant tradition
The funfair is part of a vibrant Auxerre festive tradition. The city, which also hosts Christmas markets, patron saint festivals, and numerous cultural events throughout the year, sees its population flock to the rides and fair attractions every spring. It's a time for family relaxation, reunions with friends, and immersion in the colorful, noisy, and deliciously nostalgic world of the fair.
