Cergy, New Town and Republican Celebration

Cergy (95000) is a new town created in the 1970s, the main component of the Cergy-Pontoise urban community. With its approximately 65,000 inhabitants, university campuses, residential areas, and economic dynamism, Cergy is one of the youngest and most cosmopolitan cities in the Île-de-France region. The National Holiday is celebrated here every July 14th with a vitality that reflects this city in motion.

Fireworks in the Heart of the New Town

The July 14th fireworks display is the highlight of the festivities in Cergy. Launched from green spaces or the banks of the Oise depending on the year, this pyrotechnic show illuminates the main avenues of the new town and attracts thousands of spectators. Cergy's unique geography, with its pedestrian areas, landscaped parks, and viewpoints, offers numerous vantage points for the fireworks.

The Place des Arts, the Axe Majeur designed by Dani Karavan, or the banks of the Oise are exceptional sites to enjoy the show. Cergy's contemporary architecture, with its grand perspectives and open spaces, is particularly well-suited for outdoor festivities.

The Axe Majeur and the Exceptional Setting of Cergy

Cergy boasts one of the most original architectural and landscape heritages in the Île-de-France region. The Axe Majeur, a monumental work by artist Dani Karavan gradually inaugurated since 1980, is a 3-kilometer artistic promenade structuring the city along a geometric axis. This open-air work of art, comprising twelve thematic stations, provides a unique setting for the July 14th festivities.

The Parc François-Mitterrand, the banks of the Oise, and the Cergy-Pontoise leisure center offer vast green spaces where residents can gather for summer festivities.

Popular Dances and Summer Activities

In the republican tradition, popular dances are organized in Cergy on July 14th. These dances liven up the neighborhoods and squares of the city, allowing residents of all origins and generations to come together in a friendly and festive atmosphere. Cergy's cultural diversity, a welcoming city for many communities, enriches these moments of collective celebration.

Activities for children, patriotic exhibitions, concerts, and sports activities complete the day's program. The Cergy-Pontoise agglomeration community and local associations are actively involved in organizing these festivities.

A Student City Celebrating the Republic

Cergy is a major university city, home to the campus of CY Cergy Paris Université and numerous grandes écoles. This young and international student population contributes to the particularly festive and open atmosphere of July 14th in Cergy. The national holiday thus becomes a moment of intercultural sharing, where the republican values of liberty, equality, and fraternity take on their full meaning in this cosmopolitan community.

The Fête Nationale de Cergy perfectly embodies the values of the new town: modernity, openness, social and cultural diversity, and a deep attachment to the republican ideals that guided its creation in the 1970s.
