The Fêtes de Monein: five days of celebration in the heart of the Jurançon vineyards
Every year at the end of July and beginning of August, Monein, a small town nestled in the heart of the Jurançon vineyards, vibrates for five days to the rhythm of its patron saint festivals. These festivities bring together locals and visitors in a warm and friendly atmosphere, typical of the festivals of the Southwest.
A festive program over five days
The Fêtes de Monein offer a rich and varied program combining Béarn traditions, gastronomy, music, and entertainment for all ages. Each day offers its share of surprises and highlights.
Thursday: opening of the festivities
The festivals begin on Thursday evening with the opening concert in front of the town hall, setting the tone for five days of revelry.
Friday: fishing and dancing
Friday is marked by a fishing competition, followed by a Gascon evening with traditional dances and a musical dinner show.
Saturday: taurine traditions
Saturday is dedicated to taurine traditions with a Landes race demonstration, followed by evenings animated by DJs.
Sunday: the highlight
Sunday is the climax of the festivals with the famous fruit exhibition and Jurançon wine tasting organized by the Monein agricultural association. This morning event allows you to discover the local wines in a friendly atmosphere. In the afternoon, traditional Béarn dances and a concert by the orchestra Osmoz liven up the village squares.
Monday: a grand closing
Monday features children's entertainment, a pétanque competition, the Gran Comida (grand meal), and the closing ball with fireworks.
Monein, capital of Jurançon
Monein is the largest commune in the Jurançon appellation, famous for its dry and sweet white wines. The festivals offer an opportunity to discover this exceptional wine region while enjoying the Saint-Girons church, a jewel of Béarn Gothic architecture with its remarkable wooden framework shaped like an overturned ship's hull.
The Festival Committee
The Fêtes de Monein are organized by the Comité des Fêtes de Monein, composed of passionate volunteers who work throughout the year to prepare this unifying event and keep the Monein festive traditions alive.
