The medieval town festival in the north of Val-d'Oise
Luzarches, a medieval town in the Val-d'Oise crowned by its Gothic church and ancient houses, celebrates its municipal festival every summer. Musical entertainment, games, gastronomic stands, and a popular ball liven up the town square for the greatest pleasure of residents and visitors. An authentic festival that perpetuates the festive traditions of this historic village in the north of Val-d'Oise.
Luzarches is one of the most picturesque towns in the Val-d'Oise. Its historic center, dominated by the beautiful Saint-Côme-et-Saint-Damien collegiate church from the 12th century, its cobbled streets, and its medieval residences make it a place steeped in history and character. Every summer, this town of five thousand inhabitants celebrates its municipal festival, one of the most anticipated events of the year by its residents and by the many visitors attracted by its heritage.
The Fête de Luzarches beautifully takes advantage of the exceptional historical setting of the town. The entertainment takes place in the narrow streets and on the central square, which forms the heart of the medieval village. The Saint-Côme-et-Saint-Damien collegiate church, a magnificent example of Romanesque-Gothic art, provides an incomparable architectural backdrop for the concerts and shows organized in the square. Medieval entertainment is sometimes on the program: knight demonstrations, archery, historical reenactments, and medieval calligraphy workshops that remind visitors of Luzarches' illustrious past. An artisanal market brings together local producers and creators under the market hall's arcades or in the market square.
The Fête de Luzarches offers a program of entertainment designed to satisfy all generations. Children are delighted by inflatable games, face painting workshops, and puppet shows organized in a dedicated area. Adults appreciate the artisanal market, tastings of local products, and musical concerts. Seniors rediscover the atmosphere of yesteryear's festivals with pétanque games and the popular ball that traditionally concludes the festival evenings. Guided tours of the town and the collegiate church, led by history enthusiasts, allow visitors to discover the heritage treasures of Luzarches during this festival.
Luzarches is surrounded by a preserved agricultural countryside, at the confluence of two rivers – the Thève and the Vieux-Fosse – whose wooded banks offer very pleasant country walks. The nearby Carnelle forest is a remarkable natural space that welcomes hikers and cyclists. These natural spaces provide an ideal setting for walks between festival activities and allow visitors to combine cultural discovery with rejuvenation in nature. Local producers – market gardeners, breeders, beekeepers – are often present during the festival to showcase the flavors of the Val-d'Oise region.
