The grand fireworks and popular ball of July 13th in Longjumeau
Every year on July 13th, Longjumeau celebrates the National Day with a festive program bringing all residents together around a giant picnic with food trucks, a dance party hosted by DJs, and fireworks at 11:30 PM at the Parc des sports Langrenay. An unmissable moment of republican conviviality in the central town of the Yvette valley, bringing together several thousand Longjumeau residents of all generations.
Every July 13th evening, the Parc des sports Langrenay, in the heart of Longjumeau, transforms into a grand stage of the Republic. The town of Longjumeau, the sub-prefecture of Essonne with nearly 22,000 inhabitants, offers its residents a celebration of the National Day that is convivial, popular, and spectacular.
The festivities begin at dusk with a giant picnic: families and friends settle on the park's lawn, while food trucks offer a wide variety of fast food for all tastes — burgers, world cuisine, ice cream, and cold drinks. This relaxed fairground atmosphere allows residents to gather in good spirits, with background music.
At 9:30 PM, the evening picks up pace with the opening of the dance floor. DJs get the crowd moving to various rhythms — pop, electro, summer hits — creating a festive and good-natured atmosphere that delights both young and old. The square buzzes with life, laughter rings out, and impromptu dancers don't hesitate to jump in.
The highlight of the show arrives at 11:30 PM: the fireworks, launched from the Langrenay stadium, illuminate the Longjumeau sky with a succession of colorful bursts, chrysanthemums, and luminous cascades. For about twenty minutes, spectators, gathered in the park or on the town's heights, admire the pyrotechnic display. After the finale, the party continues with music until past midnight.
Longjumeau is a town steeped in history: it was here that the Treaty of Longjumeau was signed in 1568, temporarily ending the second War of Religion. The town is also known for its famous pavé de Longjumeau, the paved road of the Nationale 20 which for centuries was the southern gateway to Paris. These historical roots give a special flavor to the republican celebration of July 14th.
The municipality has been largely modernized, with a shopping center, a 954-seat theater, and a developed transport network including the RER C. The National Day is an opportunity for all this diverse population — long-established families, newcomers, young professionals — to come together around the common values of liberty, equality, and fraternity.
The July 13th celebration in Longjumeau is designed to be truly family-friendly. Young children enjoy the festive atmosphere and the distribution of lanterns before the fireworks, teenagers take over the dance floor, adults savor the conviviality of the picnic, and seniors rediscover the spirit of the popular balls of yesteryear. This generational diversity is the mark of a truly republican celebration.
Each edition is organized by the municipal services of Longjumeau with the support of local associations, who contribute to the decoration, entertainment, and smooth organization of the event. Admission is completely free, ensuring accessibility for all residents.
