The grand annual festival of Longjumeau: music, family entertainment, and conviviality in the heart of the medieval city of Essonne
Longjumeau is a town in Essonne with around 22,000 inhabitants, known for its medieval heritage, its famous post relay, and its Saint-Biaise-des-Simples chapel. Every year in June, the city transforms into a large festive space for the Fête de la Ville, coinciding with the national Fête de la Musique.
The Fête de la Ville de Longjumeau takes over several areas of the city center: Rue du Président François Mitterrand, the Mandela Park and Hall, Place Steber, and the Town Hall car park transformed into an entertainment village. It's a full day of free festivities, from noon until 1 am, bringing together thousands of Longjumellois and visitors.
The day is organized into two main parts:
The 2025 edition was the 6th edition of the Fête de la Ville. This event is relatively recent but has quickly established itself as the major popular gathering in Longjumeau, bringing together residents of all ages around music and sharing.
Longjumeau boasts remarkable historical heritage: the Chapelle Saint-Biaise-des-Simples, a former 12th-century leper hospital founded by Thomas Becket, the grand 18th-century post relay, and numerous private mansions. This medieval and modern history gives the city a unique character in Essonne.
Beyond the Fête de la Ville, Longjumeau offers other annual events: the Fête Nationale on July 14th with fireworks and entertainment, night markets (4 per year), the Christmas Market and its village at Parc Mandela with creative workshops and concerts. The Halle Mandela also hosts concerts and shows throughout the season.
The 6th edition of the Fête de la Ville was held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from noon to 1 am, in the center of Longjumeau. The program included: lunch on the terrace, free family entertainment in the afternoon (strolling band, clowns, skimboard, mini-golf), musical aperitif with MikOsax (7 pm), live concert by Disc'Over (9 pm), and DJ set by Monsieur Croque Madame (11 pm). Free admission, food available on site.
The 7th edition of the Fête de la Ville de Longjumeau is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, again around the Fête de la Musique. The full program will be announced by the city on longjumeau.fr. The event is expected to return to its usual locations — Rue Mitterrand, Halle Mandela, Place Steber — for another day of free festivities.
