Relive the Battle of Alesia
Every summer, the MuséoParc Alésia hosts a large-scale historical reenactment event: "De Bello Gallico", the Gallic Wars Reenactment. On the very site where Vercingetorix confronted the legions of Julius Caesar in 52 BC, more than 200 reenactors passionate about history and archaeology gather to bring this pivotal period of Gallic history back to life.
Immersive Camps
Visitors can freely explore the Gallic, Roman, and Germanic camps, open continuously from 10 am to 7 pm. In each camp, reenactors present the daily life of ancient armies: military equipment, food, artisanal techniques (blacksmithing, weaving, pottery, metalworking). Demonstrations of military maneuvers, sword fighting, and Roman tactical formations punctuate the two days.
A World Heritage Site
The MuséoParc Alésia, managed by the Department of Côte-d'Or, is an interpretation center designed by architect Bernard Tschumi. It overlooks the remains of the Gallo-Roman city of Alesia and offers modern museography retracing the siege of 52 BC. The reenactment is labeled Olympiade culturelle and is one of the highlights of the site's summer programming.
