Granville Unveils its Maritime and Cultural Heritage
Every third weekend of September, Granville, the "Monaco of the North," opens its doors for the European Heritage Days. This corsair city with a rich maritime and cultural past offers a varied and free program of visits, exhibitions, workshops, and shows that allow for the rediscovery of its hidden treasures.
Exceptional Guided Tours
The program for the Heritage Days in Granville includes themed guided tours: discovery of the Haute Ville and its ramparts, a visit to the fishing port, a "Fashion and Seaside" tour retracing the city's seaside history, and a discovery of Granville's maritime culture. The Manoir Saint-Nicolas and Villa Bonheur exceptionally open their doors to the public.
Museums Celebrate
Granville's museums are at the heart of these days. The Christian Dior Museum, located in the couturier's birthplace, offers tours of its remarkable gardens and exhibitions. The Richard Anacréon Museum of Modern Art presents its permanent and temporary collections. The museum collections conservation center is also accessible, revealing the behind-the-scenes of heritage conservation.
Matrimoine Days
Granville distinguishes itself by associating the European Heritage Days with the Matrimoine Days, which highlight the heritage and contribution of women in the city's history and culture. This original initiative enriches the program with new and inclusive perspectives.
Workshops and Shows
Weaving, embroidery, and textile workshops are offered by artists, inviting the public to discover traditional know-how. Concerts, such as that of the Bergamasques de la Baie, conferences, book signings, and meetings in art galleries complete the program of these exceptional days. La Granvillaise, an old-rigged boat moored in the fishing port, is open for free visits.
