The Fête du Klevener: A Unique Wine
Klevener de Heiligenstein is one of the most fascinating rarities of the Alsatian vineyard. Made from the Savagnin Rose (or Traminer) grape, this white wine with subtle aromas of rose, quince, and sweet spices can only be produced on a few hectares of the hillsides of Heiligenstein and neighboring communes. This grape variety was introduced from Italy in 1742 by a village resident and has never left these lands, making each bottle a true heritage treasure.
A Weekend of Festivities
The Fête du Klevener takes place over two days, in a warm and friendly atmosphere:
Saturday evening
- Opening of the festivities at 6 PM in front of the Town Hall
- Tastings of Klevener and other Alsatian wines
- Stands for beers, non-alcoholic drinks, grilled meats, and Tarte Flambée
- Open-air concert and popular ball under fairy lights until midnight
Sunday
- Activities starting at 11 AM with music throughout the afternoon
- Guided tastings of Klevener commented by the winemakers
- Thematic exhibitions on the history of the vineyard
- Meetings with local winemakers and direct sales
- Food and Alsatian specialties until 11 PM
An Exceptional Terroir
The Heiligenstein terroir is distinguished by its sandstone and marl soils, its southeast exposure, and a particularly favorable microclimate. Unlike more well-known grape varieties like Riesling or Gewurztraminer, Klevener captivates with its confidential character, its aromatic richness, its roundness, and its ability to enhance regional dishes. The festival is the ideal opportunity to meet the artisans who perpetuate this unique wine tradition.
A Village of Character
Heiligenstein, a small village of 1,100 inhabitants nestled at the foothills of the Vosges mountains, offers an enchanting setting with its half-timbered houses, its traditional winstubs, and its vineyard trails offering breathtaking panoramas of the Alsace plain.
