Multidisciplinary festival celebrating the cultural diversity of the Moselle steel basin
The Hommes et Usines Festival was born in 2001 in Talange, a town marked by the history of the Moselle steel industry. This unique festival pays tribute to the men and women from all over the world who came to work in the factories and mines of Lorraine. Italians, Poles, North Africans, Portuguese, Turks, and many other communities have shaped the multicultural identity of this territory, and the festival proudly celebrates this heritage.
The festival unfolds over several days at the Théâtre Jacques Brel and in other venues in Talange. The program encompasses all forms of artistic expression: theater, contemporary dance, music, literature, visual arts, and cinema. The performances are chosen for their connection to themes of identity, cultural mixing, working-class memory, and cultural diversity.
Theater plays a central role in the program, with professional companies presenting original creations and performances addressing issues of exile, integration, transmission, and memory. Contemporary dance is also highlighted, with choreographers exploring bodies and identities through movement.
The festival offers meetings with artists, debates on the themes addressed, and round tables on the industrial and social history of Lorraine. These exchange sessions allow for deeper reflection and create connections between the audience and the creators.
The Théâtre Jacques Brel in Talange is the ideal setting for this committed festival. This performance venue hosts a demanding cultural program throughout the year, and the Hommes et Usines festival is its annual highlight. The facility offers optimal technical conditions for theater, dance, and music performances.
Talange, a town located north of Metz in the former steel basin, perfectly embodies the spirit of the festival. Industrial history is omnipresent here, and the cultural diversity of its population makes it a living laboratory for living together. The festival contributes to the valorization of this intangible heritage and the cultural influence of the region.
The 2026 edition of the Hommes et Usines Festival was held from Thursday, May 7 to Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at the Théâtre Jacques Brel in Talange. Seven days of shows, theater, concerts, and meetings centered around working-class memory and the cultural diversity of the Moselle steel basin.
For its new edition, the Hommes et Usines Festival presented seven days of programming from Thursday, May 7 to Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at the Théâtre Jacques Brel in Talange, true to its vocation as a festival of cultural diversity initiated in 2001.
The program alternated between shows for all audiences and proposals for young audiences: theatrical and musical cabaret on the opening night, contemporary theater for young audiences, a creation in theater and juggling for the closing night. In parallel, the Café de l'Usine hosted concerts every evening at 6:30 PM in a friendly atmosphere.
Organized by the Théâtre Jacques Brel and the City of Talange, the festival continues to highlight the world cultures that have met in the Moselle industrial basin, offering multidisciplinary programming accessible to all.
