A festival rooted in the independent rock scene of the Yonne

In the heart of the small town of Pont-sur-Yonne, in the department of Yonne, the association PYHC (Pont sur Yonne Hardcore) has been making electric guitars resonate since the early 2010s. The Icaun of Rock Festival is the result of this collective passion for amplified music, a local and committed response to the needs of a rock scene often invisible outside major cities.

The festival's name is itself a tribute to the territory: Icaun is the Gaulish name for the Yonne, the river that crosses the region and gives its name to the department. Icaun of Rock is therefore literally the rock of the Yonne, that of a region that vibrates to the sound of heavy riffs and basslines rumbling within the walls of the Pont-sur-Yonne multipurpose hall.

The DIY spirit as its DNA

What sets Icaun of Rock apart is above all its state of mind. The festival is entirely organized by passionate volunteers, in the pure tradition of the DIY (Do It Yourself) movement that permeates the global punk and hardcore scene. No imposing sponsors, no astronomical fees: here, people make music because they love it, they organize concerts because they want to see them exist in their town.

The PYHC association has been active since the 2010s and has organized numerous events in Pont-sur-Yonne, including the PYHC Fest (metal and hardcore), Icaun of Punk, and Icaun of Rock. Each format reflects a facet of the collective's musical identity: raw, committed, locally rooted, open to all forms of rock.

An eclectic program centered around rock

The Icaun of Rock program covers a wide spectrum of alternative rock. It features bands playing stoner rock and doom as well as punk rock, grunge, blues rock, or hardcore formations. The festival mixes local and regional bands with groups from all over France, in a fraternal and relaxed atmosphere.

Past editions have notably hosted CREW (stoner/groove metal), MEZCLA (death metal), TARVOS PROJECT (dark folk/acoustic rock), THE SHATTERS, THE ANGRY CATS, SALLYMAGE, STREET BLUES BAND (blues/rock), LEXA (punk rock), and CHANTILLY BEARS (punk/grunge), demonstrating the richness and diversity of the French independent rock scene.

The Salle polyvalente of Pont-sur-Yonne, located at rue Pierre Banry, has been the headquarters for amplified music lovers in the north of the Yonne for years. This human-sized venue hosts PYHC concerts throughout the year and transforms, for a weekend in spring, into a rock temple for the annual Icaun of Rock festival.

The modest capacity of the venue is a deliberate characteristic: it guarantees a unique proximity between artists and the audience, direct interactions offstage, and a human warmth that large festivals have often lost. It is this authenticity that has built a loyal audience year after year, coming from all over the department and neighboring regions.

A unifying event for the entire territory

Beyond the music, the Icaun of Rock is a structuring cultural event for Pont-sur-Yonne and the north of the Yonne.
