Traveling medieval festival along the Dropt valley in Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne, and Gironde
The Itinérance Médiévale en Vallée du Dropt is a unique traveling medieval festival that unfolds every August over about a hundred kilometers along the Dropt river, crossing about ten communes spread across Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne, and Gironde. Since 2001, this event has showcased the valley's medieval heritage through quality shows, lively banquets, games, craft workshops, and medieval markets. In Eymet, a bastide town in Périgord, activities include combat demonstrations, falconry, music, juggling, fire shows, and an evening banquet. Entry to most activities is free.
The Itinérance Médiévale en Vallée du Dropt is a nomadic festival that travels through the Dropt valley each summer, a river crossing three departments in the Southwest: Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne, and Gironde. Created in 2001, this original festival is distinguished by its traveling format, taking place over about ten days in August across about ten communes spread along a linear route of approximately one hundred kilometers. The objective is to highlight the valley's most beautiful heritage sites and introduce them to the public through quality shows, games, workshops, and medieval banquets.
In Eymet, a bastide founded in the 13th century in Dordogne, the festival offers a rich program of medieval activities. The medieval camp is set up with craft workshops and combat demonstrations. Visitors can attend falconry shows, medieval music performances, juggling acts, and street theater, participate in games for adults and children, try archery, and discover a medieval market animated by artisans.
The festival offers activities suitable for all ages: knighthood courses for children on ponies, dungeon rappelling for the more adventurous, and stilt walkers and fire eaters to amaze both young and old. In the evening, a lively banquet followed by a fire show extends the celebration in a festive and friendly atmosphere. The medieval tavern offers food and drinks throughout the day.
The Itinérance Médiévale contributes to the promotion of the built heritage of the Dropt valley—castles, bastides, Romanesque and fortified churches—by transforming these historical sites into living stages for the duration of the festival. The event is supported by local tourist offices and participating communes, as part of a cultural and tourism promotion initiative for the region.
The Itinérance Médiévale en Vallée du Dropt returns in August 2026 for a new edition of its traveling medieval festival. The route will once again cross the communes of the Dropt valley between Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne, and Gironde, with medieval activities, combat, falconry, markets, and banquets. Dates and program to be confirmed.
