International street arts festival in Miramont-de-Guyenne
Bastid'Art is the international street arts festival of Miramont-de-Guyenne, in Lot-et-Garonne, created in 1994. Every first weekend of August, the medieval bastide transforms into an open-air stage where about thirty regional and national companies take over the streets and squares to offer nearly 140 completely free performances. Circus, street theater, dance, music, clown, puppets, and workshops follow one another in a remarkable heritage setting, attracting over 26,000 festival-goers of all ages.
Since 1994, the bastide of Miramont-de-Guyenne has vibrated to the rhythm of street arts every first weekend of August. The Bastid'Art festival, which has become over the years an unmissable event for live outdoor performance in the Southwest, transforms the streets, squares, and heritage nooks of this medieval town in Lot-et-Garonne into a vast open-air theater.
The strength of Bastid'Art lies in the diversity of its programming. Each edition brings together about thirty companies from the regional and national scene, offering nearly 140 free performances spread over three days. The artistic disciplines represented cover a wide spectrum of live performance:
The festival is part of a territorial cooperation initiative with the other bastides of the Dropt Valley. Performances are scheduled in neighboring towns such as Lévignac-de-Guyenne and Eymet, creating a true artistic route between the bastides. This opening to the territory strengthens the link between built heritage and contemporary creation.
Bastid'Art pays particular attention to emerging talent. The "Les Émergents" program allows four companies in the process of professionalization each year to present their creations less than two years old, benefiting from a grant of 400 euros and visibility among the public and professionals. The festival also collaborates with the circus arts schools of Nouvelle-Aquitaine to promote up-and-coming talent.
The festival stands out for its particular attention to the visibility of female artists, contributing to a more representative program of the diversity of live performance talent.
Born in 1994 under the impetus of the town of Miramont-de-Guyenne and thanks to the cooperation of the local circus school, the festival has continuously grown. Taking the name Bastid'Art in 2004, it has become one of the most important street arts festivals in Lot-et-Garonne, attracting over 26,000 festival-goers to the streets of the bastide each year. The involvement of residents in the organization and artistic actions makes this event a true territorial cultural project, supported by an entire community.
