The autumn jazz meeting of Fontainebleau, at the Municipal Theatre
Jazz au Théâtre was born from the desire of the Django Reinhardt Festival team to extend the musical adventure beyond the summer. Every year at the end of November, the Théâtre Municipal de Fontainebleau, a magnificent Italian-style hall inaugurated in 1912, transforms into a jazz temple for a long weekend. While the summer festival unfolds its open-air stages before thousands of spectators, Jazz au Théâtre offers a radically different experience: concerts in a 500-seat hall where the proximity to the artists creates an atmosphere of rare intensity. The remarkable acoustics of the theatre magnify every note, every improvisation, offering spectators total immersion in the music.
One of the unique features of Jazz au Théâtre is its Young Talents competition, organized on Saturday afternoons with free admission. This initiative allows young jazz musicians to perform on a prestigious stage in front of an audience of connoisseurs and a jury of professionals. The competition is part of the mission of transmission and discovery dear to the Django Reinhardt Festival, which has always known how to associate the greatest names in jazz with the revelation of new talents. Many musicians have taken their first steps on this stage before establishing themselves on the French jazz scene.
Beyond the concerts, Jazz au Théâtre offers a photographic exhibition dedicated to jazz, which takes over the theatre's spaces from the opening Thursday. The shots by photographers specializing in music capture the essence of jazz: the energy of the concerts, the intimacy of rehearsals, portraits of artists. This visual dimension enriches the festival experience and creates a dialogue between image and music. Festival-goers can also interact with artists during informal moments, in the friendly spirit that characterizes the events organized by the Django Reinhardt Festival association.
The Théâtre Municipal de Fontainebleau is an architectural gem from the early 20th century, classified as a historic monument. Its neoclassical facade, its foyer adorned with frescoes, and its Italian-style hall make it an exceptional setting for jazz concerts. Located in the heart of the imperial city, a stone's throw from the château, the theatre offers a complete cultural experience to visitors who can combine historical heritage with musical discovery. The autumn in Fontainebleau, with its flamboyant colors and the cozy atmosphere of the season, adds an extra charm to this musical event.
Jazz au Théâtre 2025 will be held from November 27 to 29 at the Théâtre Municipal de Fontainebleau. The photographic exhibition opens the festival on Thursday the 27th. Concerts will be held on Thursday and Friday evenings (doors open at 6:30 PM). On Saturday, the Young Talents competition will be held from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM with free admission, followed by an evening of concerts.
