A jazz workshop in a unique medieval setting
Jazz'Monpazz (formerly Jazz en Périgord) is a jazz and improvisation workshop that takes place every summer since 2002 in the bastide of Monpazier, a village listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, in Dordogne. This summer event offers musicians an exceptional setting to train and share their passion for jazz in a remarkable cultural and heritage environment.
A week of musical immersion
The workshop takes place over a full week, from Sunday to Friday. The mornings are dedicated to themed instrumental classes taught by renowned teachers: piano, guitar, drums, bass and double bass, wind instruments. The afternoons are dedicated to ensemble workshops where participants practice collective playing and improvisation. Thursday is a day off in the morning, while the afternoon and Friday morning are dedicated to rehearsals for the end-of-workshop concert.
Public concert and jam sessions
The highlight of the week is the public concert on Friday evening, held under the Monpazier market hall on the Place des Cornières. This concert brings together participants and teachers in a moment of musical sharing open to all. Jam sessions are organized throughout the week, allowing musicians to meet in an informal and friendly atmosphere. An end-of-workshop dinner in a local restaurant concludes this week of jazzy immersion.
A workshop open to all levels
Jazz'Monpazz is open to all musicians: passionate amateurs, experienced musicians, professionals wishing to improve, and conservatory students. A minimum of 5 to 6 years of instrumental practice is recommended. The teaching team includes renowned professional musicians, specialists in jazz and improvisation.
