Spring market of artisans, creators, and producers at the Priory of Allichamps
The Bruère-Allichamps Nature and Craft Days, organized by the association Les Amis du Prieuré d'Allichamps with the support of the town hall, open the cultural season of the Priory Saint-Étienne d'Allichamps. This spring event brings together art artisans, creators, and local producers in the exceptional setting of a 12th-century Romanesque edifice, in the geographical heart of France. Market, demonstrations, children's activities, on-site catering, and discovery of Benedictine heritage punctuate the day.
Each year in May, the association Les Amis du Prieuré d'Allichamps, created in 1986 and supported by the Bruère-Allichamps town hall, opens the Priory's new season with a large spring market that brings together art artisans, creators, and producers in the remarkable setting of the Romanesque edifice.
The market gathers art artisans offering traditional creations and know-how (pottery, sculpture, woodworking, textiles, ironwork, jewelry, leather goods) as well as local producers from Berry (honey, goat cheeses, jams, breads, artisanal wines and beers). For the 2026 edition, the association has chosen to place the day under the medieval theme « Retour aux sources »: artisans and members in costume, activities related to the Middle Ages.
The event takes place within the Priory Saint-Étienne d'Allichamps, a former 12th-century Benedictine priory closely linked to the Abbaye de Noirlac. The site features sober Cistercian architecture — Romanesque church, conventual buildings, garden — and constitutes a remarkable heritage of Berry. The spring market is the ideal opportunity to discover the entire site.
Throughout the day, the public can enjoy craft demonstrations, children's activities (games, workshops), music, traditional songs and dances. A refreshment stand and light catering service are provided outdoors. Depending on the editions, additional activities are offered by local associations: introduction to archery with the Archers club, carriage or donkey rides with the Association Osmoz, demonstrations of ancient dances by the group Les Saltarelles.
Bruère-Allichamps is a village in Cher located near the Abbaye de Noirlac and Saint-Amand-Montrond. The village houses the Priory d'Allichamps and is located at the geographical center of France, symbolized by the Borne de Bruère-Allichamps. This spring day allows visitors to discover this preserved rural territory, between Berrichon bocage and Romanesque architectural heritage.
For 2026, the Nature and Craft Days are rebranded as « Medieval Spring Market — Back to Origins » and will take place on a single day, Saturday, May 24, 2026, from 10 am to 6 pm, at the Prieuré Saint-Étienne d'Allichamps. On the program: artisans, creators, and producers (some in medieval costume), children's entertainment, outdoor catering, and a refreshment stand.
To open its new 2026 season, the association Les Amis du Prieuré d'Allichamps has chosen to place its traditional spring market under the medieval theme « Back to Origins ». The edition takes place on a single day — Saturday, May 24, 2026 — instead of a full weekend like some previous editions.
Numerous artisans, creators, and producers are expected in the nave, choir, mezzanine, and around the priory. Some exhibitors and members will be in medieval costume, to give the day a « back to origins » atmosphere consistent with the 12th-century Romanesque architecture of the Prieuré Saint-Étienne d'Allichamps.
Throughout the day, the public will enjoy children's entertainment, games, as well as activities related to the medieval world. A refreshment stand and light catering are provided outdoors on site. The detailed program will be published on the association's website closer to the event.
