The festival that thinks about the world differently at Château d'Hurigny
Since 2012, the Château d'Hurigny, nestled in the Mâconnais region a few kilometers from Mâcon, has hosted a unique festival on the French cultural scene. La Manufacture d'Idées is a singular meeting place between thought and creation, a space where human and social sciences dialogue with the arts and environmental issues to question our contemporary world.
The originality of La Manufacture d'Idées lies in its ability to bring together usually compartmentalized worlds. Each edition invites researchers—philosophers, historians, sociologists, anthropologists, environmental specialists—alongside artists from all disciplines: filmmakers, writers, visual artists, choreographers, and musicians. From this encounter emerge debates, performances, screenings, and artistic acts that "put meaning back into circulation," according to the organizers.
Each year, a unifying theme guides the program. In 2025, "In the Folds of the World - Narratives | Struggles | Imaginations" explored the narratives that shape our understanding of reality, between personal stories and collective struggles. Renowned international speakers, such as the Brazilian journalist and writer Eliane Brum and the researcher Chowra Makaremi, fueled four days of intense reflection.
The Château d'Hurigny and its 10-hectare park offer a bucolic setting conducive to reflection and exchange. Under the ancient trees, in the castle rooms, or on the lawn, debates and performances unfold in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Communal meals shared by participants and guests extend the discussions. Speakers are even hosted by local residents, anchoring the festival in local life and creating unique bonds between artists, thinkers, and the community.
Under the artistic direction of Emmanuel Favre and supported by a collegial board of five members, La Manufacture d'Idées is recognized as an organization of general interest. The festival operates thanks to a team of dedicated volunteers and an associative economic model based on membership and donations. This approach reflects the values of sharing and accessibility of knowledge that the event has championed since its inception.
The 15th edition of La Manufacture d'Idées takes place from August 26 to 30, 2026, at Château d'Hurigny, near Mâcon. Five days of meetings, debates, shows, screenings, and performances at the intersection of human sciences, arts, and contemporary issues, centered on decolonial ecologies, human rights, justice, and forms of cultural resistance.
