Living poetry takes over the Lyonnaise night
Every March, La Nuit du Slam de Lyon makes words vibrate as part of the Printemps des Poètes. Organized by the company La Tribut du Verbe, this event evening brings together amateur and confirmed slammers around open stages, the regional tournament « Yes we slam » and a spoken word stage mixing slam, rap and song. Free and open to all, this poetic and intergenerational night has celebrated the richness of living speech since 2008.
Since 2008, La Nuit du Slam de Lyon has been a unique event in Lyon's cultural landscape dedicated to living poetry. Initiated by the Délégation générale à la langue française et aux langues de France (DGLFLF), this event has been supported from the start by the company La Tribut du Verbe, a Lyon-based slam poetry collective founded in 2005, and a member of the Ligue Slam de France.
La Nuit du Slam unfolds over an entire evening, from 6 PM to midnight, structured around three complementary highlights. The slam session kicks things off with an open stage at the bar where anyone—amateur, enthusiast, or simply curious—can take the stage to share their texts. This is the very essence of slam: a democratic art form where everyone has a voice.
The highlight of the evening is the regional tournament « Yes we slam », which brings together the eight winners of the pre-selection tournaments held in various cities in the region in the main hall. These slammers compete in elimination duels before an audience that becomes the jury: the entire assembly votes and designates the champion of the evening. The intensity of the texts, the strength of the performance, and the shared emotion create an electric and profoundly human atmosphere.
Towards the end of the evening, the spoken word stage takes over to explore the boundaries between slam, rap, and French song. This hybrid format, featuring artists from all backgrounds, illustrates the vitality of contemporary poetry that rejects labels and embraces all forms of oral expression.
La Nuit du Slam is held every year on a Saturday in March, as part of the Printemps des Poètes and the Magnifique Printemps festival. This integration into a national poetry highlight reinforces the event's reach and attracts a curious audience, well beyond the usual slam circles.
Centered around Cocteau Mot Lotov and Mix ô Ma Prose, La Tribut du Verbe organizes slam creation workshops, tournaments, and open stages throughout the year in the Lyon metropolitan area. La Nuit du Slam is the culmination of this grassroots work: a moment of collective celebration where living poetry finds its most beautiful expression.
The 19th Nuit du Slam de Lyon is expected in March 2026 as part of the Printemps des Poètes. Open stages, « Yes we slam » tournament, and spoken word for a free evening dedicated to living poetry.
La Nuit du Slam de Lyon returns in March 2026 for its 19th edition. As part of the Printemps des Poètes, the evening will offer, as every year, its three pillars: open stage slam session, regional « Yes we slam » tournament, and spoken word stage.
