One of the most beautiful markets in France in the heart of Puisaye
Every year on Palm Saturday, Toucy hosts the Beau Marché, an unmissable event in Puisaye, recognized as one of the most beautiful markets in France. Artisans, local producers, draft horses, farm animals, a funfair, and an equestrian parade take over the town center from 9 am to 6 pm. A grand, popular, and free celebration blending rural traditions, Burgundian terroir, and conviviality in the land of Pierre Larousse.
Every year, on the Saturday of Palm Weekend, the town of Toucy transforms to host its Beau Marché, one of the most emblematic events in Puisaye-Forterre. Voted most beautiful market in Burgundy and ranked 6th most beautiful market in France, this free event brings together thousands of visitors for a rich program combining crafts, agricultural traditions, and popular entertainment.
The Beau Marché takes over the entire town center of Toucy, turning streets and squares into a vast festive space. You will find:
The Beau Marché de Toucy is above all famous for its equestrian parade, the highlight of the afternoon. Young farmers from Puisaye present their finest draft horses — Percherons, Comtois, Cob Normands — finely harnessed and decorated for the occasion. This equestrian procession through the streets of Toucy is a rare and moving spectacle, a living testament to a local agriculture attached to its traditions.
In the morning, the rue du Pâtis hosts the presentation of equines, goats, pigs, sheep, and poultry with young farmers. A true return to the roots in this Burgundian town in the land of Pierre Larousse.
The Beau Marché also hosts a remarkable poultry show with over 200 cages of birds. Roosters, rare breeds of hens, rabbits, and small farm animals are presented by passionate breeders, in the purest tradition of 19th-century Burgundian rural fairs.
The Place des Frères Genêts hosts the Ouannaises mechanics and their funfair, ensuring entertainment and fun for the younger ones. Parades of vintage vehicles and street entertainment complete the program, making this day a true popular festival accessible to all ages.
Toucy, the birthplace of Pierre Larousse, the encyclopedist and lexicographer, benefits from a remarkable natural environment in Puisaye, a land of hedgerows, ponds, and forests immortalized by Colette, another native of the region. Its weekly Saturday morning market is already renowned throughout the department; the Beau Marché des Rameaux is its annual apotheosis.
Le Beau Marché de Toucy will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, Palm Saturday. Artisans, producers, draft horses, farm animals, a funfair, and an equestrian parade will take over the town center from 9 am to 6 pm in a festive and free atmosphere.
