Marché aux Truffes de Noyers — edition 2026

The Burgundy Truffle Festival returns to Noyers-sur-Serein in the autumn of 2026. Organized by the Confrérie de la Truffe de Bourgogne, this market is traditionally held on the last Sunday of October, sometimes followed by a second event in November. The festivities in the narrow streets of this village—officially one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France—feature truffle inspections by certified experts, an auction accompanied by the ringing of cowbells, a giant omelet, and stalls from local producers. The exact date for this edition will be confirmed by the Confrérie closer to the season.

The Burgundy Truffle Festival returns to Noyers-sur-Serein in the autumn of 2026. Organized by the Confrérie de la Truffe de Bourgogne de Noyers, the event is traditionally held on the last Sunday of October, sometimes followed by a second market in November: in 2024, the two dates were October 27 and November 24; in 2025, the October market took place on the 26th, while the one scheduled for November 30 was cancelled due to an insufficient harvest. The exact date for the 2026 edition will be confirmed by the Confrérie closer to the season.

Starting at 8:00 am at the town hall, experts certified by the Fédération Française des Trufficulteurs inspect every single truffle presented. The auction begins at 10:30 am to the sound of cowbells and continues until stocks run out. Visitors are treated to the traditional giant truffle omelet, while local producers, winemakers, and artisans from the Yonne region set up their stalls around the medieval ramparts of Noyers-sur-Serein, which is ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France.

The Fête de la Truffe de Bourgogne in Noyers-sur-Serein: Autumn's Black Diamond

Every last Sunday of October, the medieval village of Noyers-sur-Serein (89310) comes alive to the rhythm of the Burgundy truffle. The Truffle Market, organized by the Confraternity of the Burgundy Truffle of Noyers, is one of the most important truffle events in the region, bringing together producers, restaurateurs, gourmets, and the curious around the black jewel of the Burgundian undergrowth.

The Burgundy Truffle: A Terroir of Excellence

The Burgundy truffle (Tuber uncinatum), also known as the Saint-Jean truffle or Christmas truffle, is a distinct species from the Périgord truffle. Its hazelnut-brown flesh, its aromas of wild mushrooms, hazelnuts, and undergrowth make it a highly prized product for enthusiasts. It is harvested from October to December in the oak and hazel groves of the Yonne and neighboring departments, on limestone soils conducive to its development.

Burgundy, and the Yonne in particular, are among the most productive and recognized truffle lands for this species. The Confraternity of the Burgundy Truffle of Noyers has been dedicated for years to the promotion and enhancement of this local product of excellence.

The Market and the Auction Sale

The organization of the market is based on a rigorous protocol guaranteeing the quality of the truffles presented:

  • Inspection from 8 am at the town hall: each truffle is individually checked by qualified inspectors certified by the Fédération Française des Trufficulteurs
  • Sale from 10:30 am to the sound of the horn, until stocks are depleted
  • Exceptional products: truffle oils, butters, cheeses, foie gras, and truffle-infused gastronomic specialties
  • Giant truffle omelette offered to the gourmets present, a true institution of the festival
  • Local producer stalls: wines, cheeses, charcuterie, honeys, and crafts from the Yonne

Noyers-sur-Serein, One of the Most Beautiful Villages in France

Noyers-sur-Serein is an architectural gem of southern Burgundy. Surrounded by its largely intact 14th-century medieval ramparts, the village boasts half-timbered houses and Renaissance mansions around a picturesque central square. Classified among the Most Beautiful Villages in France, it offers an incomparable setting for the Truffle Festival, whose aromas seem to blend naturally into the timeless atmosphere of the cobbled streets.

A Gastronomic and Friendly Festival

Beyond the market, the day offers numerous activities:

  • Tasting of dishes prepared with truffles by local restaurateurs
  • Activities by the Truffle Confraternity in traditional costumes
  • Exhibition on truffle cultivation and the biology of tuber uncinatum
  • Guided walks in the medieval village
