International Crime Fiction and Comics Festival in Penmarc'h
Since 2001, Le Goéland Masqué has been the international festival of crime fiction, comics, and youth literature in Penmarc'h, in the Pays Bigouden. Every year in June, it brings together about sixty authors, illustrators, and comic artists for three days of meetings, signings, exhibitions, and workshops. Held at the Cap Caval hall and in the streets of Penmarc'h, the festival celebrates crime fiction in all its forms in a friendly atmosphere facing the ocean.
Created in 2001 by an association founded in October 2000 in Penmarc'h, Le Goéland Masqué has become one of Brittany's most important crime fiction festivals. Every year at the beginning of June, the festival takes over the Cap Caval hall and the public spaces of Penmarc'h for three days of literary encounters in the wild and authentic setting of the Pays Bigouden, facing the Atlantic Ocean.
Le Goéland Masqué hosts about sixty authors, illustrators, and comic artists of renown each year. The festival is organized around three main areas: crime fiction, comics, and youth literature. Visitors can attend signing sessions, readings, round tables, exhibitions, and writing workshops. A literary prize is awarded each year, recognizing the best crime novel from the selection.
Le Goéland Masqué is known for its friendly and family-oriented atmosphere. Specific workshops are offered for young audiences: introductions to comics, writing workshops, detective games, and meetings with youth authors. The festival is a popular event that attracts crime fiction enthusiasts from all over Brittany and beyond, in a relaxed atmosphere typical of events in the Pays Bigouden.
Over the years, Le Goéland Masqué has gained an international dimension. The festival hosts foreign authors and offers events focused on international noir fiction. The international noir section, held before the main festival, extends the programming over several months with readings and encounters throughout the region.
