The divine selection of La Chablisienne: ten days to explore the exceptional wines of the Chablis vineyard
Every end of April, La Chablisienne — an emblematic cooperative founded in 1923 and representing more than a quarter of Chablis production — opens the doors of its cellar for ten days of wine celebration. The oenologist selects about ten vintages at a preferential rate for the occasion, from lively and fruity Petit Chablis to mineral Grands Crus from the Kimmeridgian soils. An intimate and accessible event to discover the excellence of Burgundy Chardonnay.
Founded on May 1, 1923, at the initiative of Abbé Balitrand, La Chablisienne is the first wine cooperative in Chablis. Born in a difficult economic context between the two World Wars to help winegrowers overcome the obstacles of wine commercialization, it is today one of the most recognized wine players in Burgundy. The cooperative brings together nearly 300 member winegrowers who collectively cultivate 1,250 hectares of vines in production, across seventeen communes in Chablis. This unique heritage allows it to represent more than a quarter of the total production volume of Chablis, covering the entire appellation pyramid: Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru, and Chablis Grand Cru.
Its technical peculiarity lies in the reception of the harvest in the form of musts, a distinctive practice that gives it total control over fermentation and the aromatic expression of its wines. This exceptional know-how earned it the title of Best White Wine Producer in France in 2016 and 2018 by the International Wine & Spirit Competition. Its oenologist, Vincent Bartement, holder of a master's degree in cell biology and plant physiology and a graduate in oenology from Dijon, himself received the White Winemaker award at the International Wine Challenge in 2014, 2016, and 2020.
Each year, between the end of April and the beginning of May, La Chablisienne organizes its flagship spring event: Les 10 Jours Divins. For ten days, the Tasting Cellar located at 8 Boulevard Pasteur in Chablis offers an exclusive selection of ten wines carefully chosen by the house's oenologist. These vintages benefit from a 10% discount, offering wine lovers and the curious alike the opportunity to acquire exceptional bottles at preferential prices.
The proposed selection will showcase the full richness of the Chablis vineyard: a Petit Chablis with liveliness and white fruit aromas, several Chablis villages with the characteristic iodized and lemony notes of the Kimmeridgian terroir, Premiers Crus from the most renowned climats — Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaume, Montmains, or Côte de Léchet — and sometimes a few bottles of Grands Crus, these anthology wines from the seven royal appellations (Blanchot, Bougros, Les Clos, Grenouilles, Preuses, Valmur, Vaudésir) spread across the only south-facing slope facing the village.
The uniqueness of La Chablisienne's wines — and more broadly of all Chablis wines — lies in an absolutely unique terroir in the world: Kimmeridgian limestone. These soils, formed about 150 million years ago at the bottom of a shallow sea, are composed of calcareous sediments rich in small oyster fossils, the *Exogyra virgula*. This exceptional geology gives the wines their crystalline minerality, their directness on the palate, and their tension between acidity and roundness that make Chablis wines so inimitable. Only Chardonnay is cultivated throughout the Chablis vineyard — a grape variety that, on these white and chalky soils, transcends itself by expressing aromas of candied lemon, gunflint, acacia flower, and white-fleshed fruits.
Les 10 Jours Divins is part of a rich spring event calendar offered by La Chablisienne. A few weeks earlier, generally on the second and third weekends of April, the Spring Market hosts local producers and artisans alongside the cooperative's wines. These events make La Chablisienne a true center for oenotourism in the heart of Chablis, complementing the cellar tours and tasting experiences offered year-round.
The cellar offers year-round thematic visits and tastings — from the discovery tasting at €6.50 to premium experiences at €35, including food and wine pairings, virtual reality tours of the vineyard, and educational sessions on the aromas and terroirs of Chablis. The village of Chablis itself, with its 12th-century Saint-Martin church, its medieval cobbled streets, its cellars carved into the limestone, and the walk at the foot of the Grands Crus on the slopes overlooking the Serein River, constitutes a destination in itself for any lover of wine heritage and fine Burgundy terroir.
During Les 10 Jours Divins, the La Chablisienne cellar welcomes visitors with extended hours: Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9 am to 7 pm, and other days of the week from 10 am to 6:30 pm. The event is open to all, from curious amateurs to seasoned connoisseurs. The 10% discount applies exclusively to the selection defined by the oenologist for the duration of the event, available for tasting on-site and for purchase.
