Traveling festival of classical and contemporary theater in the castles of the Cognac vineyards
Les 3 Coups de Jarnac is a traveling theater festival founded in the summer of 2020 by producer Pierre Bonnier. Its ambition: to bring the best of Parisian theater to the provinces, in exceptional heritage sites of the Cognac vineyards. The name of the festival refers to the famous coup de Jarnac, a secret move used in 1547 by the Baron de Jarnac during a duel of honor at the king's court, which has become synonymous with an unexpected and skillful blow.
The performances take place in castles and remarkable sites in the Charente Valley: Bouteville, Fontpinot, Ardenne, Bourg-Charente, Triac, but also the auditorium of Jarnac and other emblematic venues between Jarnac, Bassac, Cognac, Segonzac, and Châteauneuf-sur-Charente. This exceptional setting gives the shows a unique dimension, combining architectural heritage and live performance.
The program mixes original creations, classic repertoire, opera, musical performances, and theatricalized conferences. In 2025, the 6th season notably featured Verdi's La Traviata to open, a historical fresco on the Revolution, and shows revisiting the great texts of Hugo, Bach, and other masters. The festival was recognized by Le Figaro, which ranked it among the 12 essential theatrical events of the summer.
With prices ranging from 10 to 14.50 euros, Les 3 Coups de Jarnac is committed to making theater accessible to the greatest number. Each performance is an opportunity to discover a different heritage site, in a festive and relaxed atmosphere that appeals to both discerning amateurs and neophytes. Tickets are available online on the festival's website and on HelloAsso.
The 7th season of Les 3 Coups de Jarnac will be held from July 20th to August 1st, 2026, on the theme "Beautiful Escape". For nearly two weeks, the traveling theater festival will take over the castles and heritage sites of the Cognac vineyard with 13 events: creations, revisited classics, opera, musical shows, and theatrical conferences. The program opens with Offenbach's opera Orphée aux enfers and closes with Le Portrait de Dorian Gray.
