Eclectic open-air music festival in Daon
Since 2001, the association Bouts de Ficelles Productions has organized an open-air contemporary music festival on the first weekend of June, in the heart of the village of Daon in Mayenne. This intergenerational, pay-what-you-want celebration brings together around 5,000 spectators over three days for eclectic concerts, DJ sets, and friendly activities. Driven by passionate volunteers, the festival stands out for its eco-responsible approach — decorations made 100% from recycled materials, local products — and its role as a launchpad for emerging bands.
Born in 2001 from the desire of a handful of enthusiasts to liven up the village of Daon, the Les Bouts de Ficelles festival has become, over the years, a must-attend event in southern Mayenne. Every first weekend of June, the meadow overlooking the Mayenne river transforms into an open-air party venue, hosting about twenty bands and artists over three days.
The festival boasts a deliberately eclectic program, open to all styles: rock, reggae, dub, electro, rap, funk, French chanson, world music, and DJ sets. Over the years, Les Bouts de Ficelles has hosted artists such as Soviet Suprem, Dub Silence, Perceval, The Jacks Sonnent 4, Dureau, Fury Calling, and Doctor Psykovacs. The festival acts as a true launchpad for emerging bands: musicians benefit from a professional stage equipped with sound and lighting, mileage reimbursement, and complimentary meals. The program is complemented by improv theater, stilt walkers, and activities for all ages.
Les Bouts de Ficelles cultivates a popular and friendly festive spirit. The site offers wood-fired fouées, Creole sausages, vegetarian options, a main bar, and a bar dedicated to local craft beers. The ecological commitment is at the heart of the project: decorations are made from 100% recycled materials, local products and crafts are highlighted, and an eco-responsible approach is adopted at every stage of the organization.
Entirely organized by volunteers grouped within the association Bouts de Ficelles Productions, the festival relies on collective energy and local roots. Volunteer technicians, professionally trained, manage sound and lighting. With around 5,000 spectators over a weekend, Les Bouts de Ficelles demonstrates that a pay-what-you-want festival, driven by passion and solidarity, can shine far beyond its home village.
The 26th edition of the Les Bouts de Ficelles festival will take place from June 5 to 7, 2026, in Daon. The eclectic music festival will once again take over the meadow overlooking the Mayenne for three days of concerts, DJ sets, and pay-what-you-want activities. The call for artists wishing to perform is open on the festival's website.
