Les Forestivités: The Forest Comes Out of the Woods in Isère
The Les Forestivités festival is a unique itinerant event that unfolds every autumn throughout the Isère department. For two weeks, numerous free, family-friendly activities invite Isère residents to (re)discover the world of forests and wood, as part of an initiative to raise awareness and promote the local forest-wood sector.
A Festival Co-led by Industry Stakeholders
Les Forestivités is co-led by two key organizations in the forest-wood sector in Isère:
- Fibois Isère: The interprofessional organization for the forest-wood sector in the department, which brings together stakeholders in forest management, and the primary and secondary processing of wood.
- The Association of Forest Municipalities of Isère (Cofor 38): A network serving elected officials from municipalities owning public forests.
The festival is organized with the support of numerous local partners, environmental associations, wood industry companies, local authorities, and environmental education organizations.
A Rich and Varied Program
The Forestivités program covers a wide range of activities spread across many municipalities in Isère:
- Forest Outings: Guided hikes led by forestry professionals to understand sustainable forest management.
- Meetings with Professionals: Loggers, foresters, carpenters, cabinetmakers, and other wood industry professionals.
- Shows and Concerts: Artistic performances related to forests and nature.
- Participatory Workshops: Making wooden objects, wood carving, basket weaving, woodturning.
- Exhibitions: Art and photography centered around forests.
- Demonstrations: Horse logging, sawing, forestry operations.
- Children's Activities: Tree climbing, orienteering in the forest, wooden games.
A Festival Born in 2022
The first edition of Les Forestivités took place in 2022 in Isère, initiated by Fibois Isère and the Association of Forest Municipalities of Isère. Due to its success, a second edition followed in 2024, confirming public interest in this original format. The festival has since expanded to Savoie with a specific edition, while maintaining its roots in Isère.
A Goal of (Re)connection
The central objective of Les Forestivités is to (re)connect people with their local forests. The festival addresses fundamental questions: Why are trees cut down? Where does the wood we use daily come from? How does sustainable forest management work? By opening the doors of the forest-wood sector to the general public, the festival contributes to a better understanding of the environmental, economic, and social issues related to forests.
