Chamber music and literary evenings in the heritage sites of Mâcon
Created in 2003 by the association Art en Liberté, recognized as being of general interest, the festival Les Nuits d'Été de Mâcon was born from a conviction: chamber music and literature deserve to be shared in the most beautiful places in the city, with free access. For over twenty years, this cultural utopia has been embodied each summer in a demanding and generous program, combining the beauty of the locations, music, literature, and transmission to future generations.
What sets the Nuits d'Été apart is the choice of locations. Each concert is designed according to its setting: a church for its acoustic resonance, an inner courtyard for its intimacy, a cloister for its serenity, a salon for its warmth. The squares and gardens of Mâcon become open-air concert halls, where music dialogues with architecture and heritage.
The program blends chamber music concerts — from baroque to contemporary — and literary and musical evenings where texts and music respond to each other in original creations. Lectures given by renowned musicologists or writers complete the program. The invited artists are chosen for their musical excellence and their desire to share with the public.
True to its founding commitment, Art en Liberté guarantees free access to every evening of the festival. This free access is not an artistic compromise: it is the heart of the project, the expression of a desire to make culture accessible to all, without financial barriers. In 2025, the festival celebrates its 22nd edition, proof that excellence and generosity can go hand in hand.
23rd edition of Les Nuits d'Été de Mâcon, from July 20 to 24, 2026. A week of chamber music concerts and open-air musical evenings with free admission, held in the city's heritage sites (cloisters, courtyards of private mansions, squares, and churches).
For its 23rd anniversary, Les Nuits d'Été de Mâcon festival takes place from Monday, July 20 to Friday, July 24, 2026. Organized by the Art en Liberté association (artistic direction Jean-Pascal Meyer, Xavier Le Roux, and Gauthier Herrmann), it offers a week of chamber music, symphonic concerts, and musical and literary evenings, performed outdoors with free admission in the city's major heritage sites: Cloître de la Maison des Saints-Anges, Hôtel de Senecé, Place Saint-Pierre, Église Saint-Vincent, and Cloître du Musée des Ursulines.
