Summer in music and celebration by the Saône
Chalon au fil de l'été is the multidisciplinary summer program of the city of Chalon-sur-Saône. From late June to late August, the 'guinguettes' (riverside taverns) successively take over Port-Villiers, the Parc géobotanique, the Quai de la Monnaie, and the Bastion Sainte-Marie to offer residents and visitors of Chalon open-air concerts, shows for young audiences, tea dances, and free entertainment by the Saône. A friendly and popular event that makes the city vibrate all summer long.
Since 2016, Chalon au fil de l'été has transformed the city of Chalon-sur-Saône into a huge riverside tavern along the Saône. This multidisciplinary summer program, led by the City of Chalon-sur-Saône, offers nearly three months of free entertainment open to all, in a festive and friendly atmosphere that makes Chalonnais proud.
The 'guinguettes' are the core of the event. They are deployed successively in four emblematic locations in the city: Port-Villiers kicks off in late June with sixteen afternoons and evenings of open-air concerts by the water, in a relaxed atmosphere with small food stalls and a bar. The Parc géobotanique takes over in July with intimate and poetic shows. The Quai de la Monnaie offers shows for young audiences and tea dances in August. Finally, the Bastion Sainte-Marie concludes the season with concerts and performances until the end of August.
The musical program is eclectic and accessible: rock, jazz, French chanson, world music, groove, and reggae follow one another on the open-air stages. Concerts usually start at 8:30 PM or 9:00 PM, after the bars and food stalls open in the late afternoon. Ballades à Chalon, theatrical tours combining music and heritage, complete the program by offering original city tours.
The Chalon summer ends in style with a grand free closing concert on the last Saturday of August, bringing together thousands of spectators. In 2025, the band 3 Cafés Gourmands performed this final concert in front of an enthusiastic audience, confirming the popular success of this event which has become a must-attend summer gathering in Saône-et-Loire.
The 11th edition of Chalon au fil de l'été will take place from late June to late August 2026. The 'guinguettes' will successively take over Port-Villiers, the Parc géobotanique, the Quai de la Monnaie, and the Bastion Sainte-Marie, with free concerts, shows, and entertainment throughout the summer.
