48 hours non-stop of comic strips
Les Nuits de la BD is an original festival held every year in February in Chalencon, a village perched on the plateau of Vernoux-en-Vivarais, in Ardèche. Organized by the association K'on voit exceptionnel, this comic strip marathon lasts 48 hours non-stop, from Friday evening to Sunday, inviting comic strip lovers to dive into a graphic and narrative universe without interruption, day and night.
2,500 comic strips for free consultation
The heart of the festival is its reading room, a comfortable space where over 2,500 comic strips of all styles and for all ages are available for free consultation. The works are borrowed from local media libraries and cover a wide spectrum: comics, manga, classic Franco-Belgian comics, contemporary graphic novels, children's literature. Readers can settle into armchairs and sofas for hours of uninterrupted reading, in a subdued and warm atmosphere.
Shows, workshops, and meetings
Beyond reading, Les Nuits de la BD offers a program of various activities. Meetings with authors and illustrators allow the public to interact with the creators and get albums signed. Screen printing workshops, notably led by the artist Aude Carbone, offer the opportunity to leave with a hand-printed t-shirt. The kamishibai, a Japanese paper theater, offers illustrated stories for children and families. Shows under a big top, drawing workshops, and face painting complete the program.
A nocturnal and friendly festival
The originality of Les Nuits de la BD lies in its nocturnal and continuous format. The festival is alive both day and night, with activities following one another without interruption. A bar and light catering are available on-site, allowing festival-goers to eat at any time. The atmosphere is that of an ephemeral living space, where comic strip enthusiasts, families, and the curious mingle in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
Free participation and associative spirit
Les Nuits de la BD operates on the principle of free participation, with a recommended minimum of 5 euros per person. This spirit of accessibility reflects the values of the association K'on voit exceptionnel, which has been organizing the festival since its creation in 2007. With nearly twenty editions to its name, Les Nuits de la BD has established itself as an unmissable winter event for comic strip lovers in Ardèche and beyond.
