The summer musical festival of Le Puy-en-Velay
Created in 2015, the Les Nuits de Saint-Jacques festival is the unmissable musical event of the summer in Haute-Loire. For three evenings in the heart of the Jardin Henri Vinay, in the historic center of Le Puy-en-Velay, the festival hosts the biggest names in French chanson and variety music on the esplanade of the Musée Crozatier. Surrounded by century-old trees and dominated by the silhouette of Notre-Dame Cathedral, this exceptional setting offers a unique atmosphere blending heritage and live music. Since its creation, the festival has hosted artists such as Calogero, Patrick Bruel, Soprano, Renaud, Vianney, Louane, BigFlo & Oli, Christophe Maé, and Shaka Ponk, attracting over 15,000 spectators per edition. Organized by the Tourist Office of the Le Puy-en-Velay Urban Community, Les Nuits de Saint-Jacques has become a major summer event in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
Since July 2015, the Jardin Henri Vinay, a magnificent park located in the heart of Le Puy-en-Velay, transforms each summer into an open-air music stage to host the Les Nuits de Saint-Jacques festival. This music festival, which has become the flagship cultural event of Haute-Loire, offers three evenings of concerts featuring the biggest artists on the French scene.
The concerts take place on the esplanade of the recently restored Musée Crozatier, within the Jardin Henri Vinay. This 19th-century landscaped park, lined with century-old trees, offers a remarkable natural setting for open-air music evenings. The site benefits from a unique panorama of the emblematic monuments of Le Puy-en-Velay: Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Corneille rock topped by the statue of the Virgin, and the Saint-Michel d'Aiguilhe chapel.
Since its creation, the festival has focused on a varied program mixing French chanson, pop, variety, and world music. The biggest names in French-speaking music have graced the stage of Les Nuits de Saint-Jacques: Calogero, Patrick Bruel, Gims, Vianney, Kendji Girac, Louane, Renaud, Soprano, BigFlo & Oli, Christophe Maé, Alain Souchon & Laurent Voulzy, Shaka Ponk, Pascal Obispo, Imany, and many others.
The program combines confirmed headliners and emerging artists, offering the public a complete overview of current French music. Each evening features several artists, allowing for musical discoveries and intergenerational moments of sharing.
Organized by the Tourist Office of the Le Puy-en-Velay Urban Community, the festival is fully integrated into the cultural and tourist dynamics of Haute-Loire. It contributes to the influence of Le Puy-en-Velay, a major stop on the Way of Saint James of Compostela, and enhances the summer attractiveness of the region. The festival's name directly references this age-old Jacquaire tradition.
In parallel with the main concerts, an OFF festival has been established, offering free musical entertainment in the streets and squares of the town center of Le Puy-en-Velay, further strengthening the festive atmosphere throughout the city.
