Free open-air concerts every Thursday in July in Rouen
Since 2001, Les Terrasses du Jeudi have set the rhythm for Rouen evenings every July with free open-air concerts scattered across the squares and courtyards of the historic center. Every Thursday in July, from 6 PM to 10:30 PM, around thirty concerts simultaneously take over the city's iconic locations — parvis de la cathédrale, aître Saint-Maclou, place de la Pucelle, Halle aux Toiles, place Saint-Marc — offering an eclectic program mixing rock, jazz, French chanson, world music, electro, and pop. Organized by Le Kalif and the City of Rouen, this festival brings together tens of thousands of spectators each summer in a relaxed and festive atmosphere that is the pride of Rouen's summer.
Created in 2001, Les Terrasses du Jeudi have become, in a quarter of a century, one of Rouen's most emblematic summer events. The concept is simple yet remarkably effective: every Thursday in July, free concerts simultaneously take over a dozen squares and courtyards in the historic center, transforming the city into a huge open-air festival.
The strength of Les Terrasses du Jeudi lies in its ability to make music dialogue with Rouen's remarkable architectural heritage. Concerts unfold in historic locations: the parvis of Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Aître Saint-Maclou (former medieval cemetery), the Place de la Pucelle, the Halle aux Toiles, the Place Saint-Marc, the Place de la Calende, the Rue Eau-de-Robec, and the Espace du Palais. Each location offers a unique atmosphere, and spectators wander freely from one stage to another throughout the evening.
The program, entrusted for several years to Le Kalif, Rouen's iconic concert venue, offers a broad and demanding panorama of current music. Rock, jazz, French chanson, Brazilian music, soul, funk, punk, electro, indie pop, and world music mingle throughout the evenings. The 2025 edition, the 25th, for example, highlighted Brazilian music with groups like Cassamba, Quase-Ilha, and Samba de Mesa, alongside local, national, and international artists.
Les Terrasses du Jeudi give significant space to the local and emerging scene. Partnerships with the metropolis's conservatories and music schools allow young musicians to perform under professional conditions, through the School's Out program. This educational and discovery aspect is an integral part of the festival's DNA.
Les Terrasses du Jeudi are part of an eco-event approach, with concrete actions in sustainable development: reusable cups, waste sorting, public awareness. The festival also pays attention to hearing risk prevention, providing earplugs and running awareness campaigns. A network of partner bars throughout the city center complements the festive offering.
The 26th edition of Les Terrasses du Jeudi will take place every Thursday in July 2026 in the squares and courtyards of Rouen's historic center. The festival will once again offer free open-air concerts from 6 PM to 10:30 PM.
Les Terrasses du Jeudi return for their 26th edition in July 2026. As every year, four Thursdays of free concerts will liven up the emblematic squares of Rouen's historic center. The program will be announced in June 2026 on the festival's official website.
