The rural festival that makes the Cauchois countryside vibrate every summer
Les Troubadours à la Rue is an open-air music festival organized every year in Écretteville-lès-Baons, a small village in the Pays de Caux region of Seine-Maritime. Created in 2013, this friendly, community-run event transforms the municipal stadium into an open-air stage on the last Saturday of June, featuring an eclectic program mixing world music, rock, punk, international music, and regional discoveries. With its very affordable prices, children's activities, bar, and food stands, the festival embodies the spirit of Norman rural festivals where music brings all generations together.
In 2013, a handful of music enthusiasts founded the association Les Troubadours à la Rue with a simple but strong ambition: to offer a real music festival in Écretteville-lès-Baons, a rural commune of barely 600 inhabitants nestled in the Pays de Caux, between Yvetot and Bolbec. The challenge was audacious: to create a quality musical event in an area where cultural offerings are limited, relying on volunteer work, village solidarity, and the desire to share.
More than a decade later, the Festival d'Écretteville-lès-Baons has become an anticipated event of the Norman summer, attracting nearly 2,000 festival-goers each year to the village's municipal stadium. The event has managed to grow without losing its soul: the atmosphere remains family-friendly, prices are accessible, and the program is ambitious.
The strength of Les Troubadours à la Rue lies in the eclecticism of its programming. Each edition offers a musical journey in one evening, mixing world music, rock, punk rock, international music, folk, reggae, and unclassifiable discoveries. The festival showcases Norman regional bands while also inviting groups from all over France and sometimes from abroad.
Over the years, the festival has hosted artists as diverse as Pape Cissocko et les Étoiles du Saloum (Senegalese world music), Pink Flamingos (punk rock), Delilah's Dance (progressive rock), Beastly (fusion rock), La Gallera Social Club (Colombian world music), Que Diable (rap and violin), Aérolive, and many others. Each year, the program features between six and eight bands, ensuring a rich and diverse evening.
The Festival d'Écretteville-lès-Baons proudly cultivates its rural roots. The municipal stadium, transformed for the occasion, hosts a large stage, a bar and food area offering local products, and activities for children in the early evening. Camping is available on-site for festival-goers wishing to extend the celebration.
The association Les Troubadours à la Rue relies on a network of volunteers from the village and surrounding areas, embodying the Norman tradition of village festivals revisited by live music. The festival generally opens its doors in the late afternoon and continues until late at night, in a warm and relaxed atmosphere where families, young people, and music lovers from all walks of life mingle.
With an entrance fee of only 5 euros and free admission for children under 12, Les Troubadours à la Rue proves that quality culture can exist in the Norman countryside without needing enormous budgets.
