Less Playboy is More Cowboy: The Free Spirit of Le Confort Moderne
Born in 2010 within Le Confort Moderne, a major hub for independent culture in Poitiers, the Less Playboy is More Cowboy festival has established itself as a benchmark for alternative music in the Grand Ouest region. Driven by the association L'Oreille est Hardie, this annual event cultivates a spirit of creative freedom, generosity, and indiscipline that sets it apart from conventional festivals.
A Resolutely Bold Program
Each edition offers a weekend of musical discoveries featuring experimental rock, post-punk, noise, electronic music, alternative hip-hop, and world music. Over the years, the festival has hosted internationally renowned artists such as: Shellac, Deerhoof, Motorama, The Psychotic Monks, Crack Cloud, Birds In Row, Frankie & The Witch Fingers, Homeboy Sandman, James Pants, Ninos Du Brasil, and Duchess Says. The programming highlights emerging talent and exceptional stage performances.
A Multidisciplinary Festival
Beyond concerts, Less Playboy is More Cowboy offers contemporary art exhibitions, sound installations, screenings, markets for micro-publishers and record sellers, as well as original artistic performances. The collaboration with the Fanzinothèque, an emblematic institution housed at Le Confort Moderne, enriches this unique multidisciplinary dimension.
Le Confort Moderne: A Unique Venue
Located in a former industrial warehouse in the faubourg du Pont-Neuf district, Le Confort Moderne is more than just a concert hall. This creative space includes a performance venue, a large exhibition area, a club, a bar, rehearsal rooms, a restaurant, and a record store. The festival fully utilizes these multiple spaces to offer an immersive experience where the public can move freely between concerts, exhibitions, and installations.
Strong Territorial Roots
A flagship event of the Poitiers cultural scene, Less Playboy is More Cowboy contributes to Poitiers' reputation as a city of alternative culture. The festival has successfully built a loyal audience of curious and discerning attendees from all over Nouvelle-Aquitaine and beyond, attracted by a program that prioritizes boldness and discovery over mainstream headliners.
