The Marathon Poitiers-Futuroscope: Between Heritage and Future

Created in 2004, the Marathon Poitiers-Futuroscope has established itself as one of the most original marathons in France thanks to an exceptional course that connects two worlds: the historic center of Poitiers, a Romanesque capital with 2,000 years of history, and the Futuroscope park, a showcase of technological innovation. Certified by the French Athletics Federation, the event attracts over 7,000 participants each year across all events, supported by 500 passionate volunteers.

A Spectacular 42 km Course

The race starts at 8:30 AM from the Place du Maréchal Leclerc, at the foot of the Poitiers Palais de Justice. Runners immediately set off into the cobbled streets of old Poitiers, discovering the city's architectural gems: the Notre-Dame-la-Grande church, the Saint-Pierre cathedral, and the Romanesque facades that have made the city famous. The course then descends towards the banks of the Clain, offering a bucolic passage along the river before crossing Buxerolles, Saint-Georges-lès-Baillargeaux, Dissay, and Jaunay-Marigny. The finish is a grand finale on the Avenue du Futuroscope in Chasseneuil-du-Poitou, with a spectacular welcome at the Palais des Congrès.

Events for All Levels

The event offers a complete program adapted to all athletic profiles: the marathon (42.195 km), the half-marathon (21.1 km), the four-person relay marathon, and the free popular races 'Tout Poitiers Court' over 5 km and 10 km. Children's races, a para-athletics event, and the Collégiens Marathon complete this inclusive offering. Each marathon finisher receives a medal and two free entries to Futuroscope, while half-marathoners receive one free entry.

A Weekend of Popular Celebration

The marathon weekend transforms Poitiers into a true celebration of sport. The Marathon Village, located in Parc de Blossac, welcomes runners from Friday for bib collection, with partner stands, sports activities, and a nutrition area. On Saturday evening, the traditional Pasta Party brings participants together in a friendly atmosphere at Futuroscope. On Sunday, the entire course is enlivened by music groups, batucadas, and enthusiastic supporters. At the finish line, a giant screen broadcasts the race live, and a festive village welcomes runners and their companions.

Records and Performances

The men's marathon record is held by Kenyan Félix Kiprotich Kirui in 2h16min37s, set in 2016. The course profile, described as fast and rolling, with a predominantly downhill slope from Poitiers to Futuroscope, makes it a course conducive to personal bests. Over 1,400 marathoners and 1,200 half-marathoners start each year, in an atmosphere that is both competitive and festive.
