Bel Hiver in Saint-Denis: the magic of Christmas in the heart of Plaine Commune
Every year in December, the city of Saint-Denis transforms into a true Christmas capital thanks to its flagship event, Bel Hiver. Located on the forecourt of the Royal Basilica of Saint-Denis and Place Victor Hugo, this Christmas market is one of the most emblematic in Seine-Saint-Denis, attracting tens of thousands of visitors each season.
A hundred exhibitors under the Basilica's stars
The heart of the event is the craft market, which brings together nearly one hundred exhibitors carefully selected. Craft creators, local producers and specialized merchants set up in wooden chalets to offer an exceptional choice of original gifts and festive products: jewelry, textiles, ceramics, blown glass, screen printing, fair trade, but also foie gras, artisanal jams, fine chocolates, spices and Christmas wines. The diversity of exhibitors reflects Saint-Denis's cultural openness, with a large place given to products from around the world and creations from solidarity crafts.
Activities for the whole family
Beyond the market, Bel Hiver offers a rich and varied program of activities that delights both young and old. An ice rink is set up outdoors, allowing everyone to skate for free or at a reduced rate under the Basilica's lights. A large carousel delights children, while Santa Claus receives young visitors in his decorated chalet. Choir concerts, street performances and musical parades animate the esplanade daily. Every evening, the illuminations create an enchanting atmosphere enhanced by light projections on the Basilica's facade.
An exceptional heritage setting
One of the major assets of the Marché de Noël de Saint-Denis is its setting: the Royal Basilica of Saint-Denis, a necropolis of the Kings of France and a masterpiece of Gothic art, provides an incomparable backdrop. This UNESCO World Heritage monument offers a striking backdrop for the illuminated chalets, making this square one of the most beautiful Christmas scenes in Île-de-France. The proximity of the metro station Basilique de Saint-Denis (line 13) makes the site very accessible from Paris.
An event rooted in the life of Plaine Commune
Bel Hiver is organized by the Direction du Commerce de la Ville de Saint-Denis (Saint-Denis City Commerce Department), in collaboration with local business associations and the Plaine Commune urban community. Over the years, the event has become a true symbol of the popular and inclusive celebration that characterizes the city. Specific activities are planned to encourage the participation of all neighborhoods and generations, with particular attention paid to accessibility for people with reduced mobility.
