The Medieval Festival of Azincourt: Reliving History on a Legendary Battlefield

On October 25, 1415, the fields of Azincourt were the scene of one of the most famous battles of the Hundred Years' War. Today, the Centre Azincourt 1415 perpetuates the memory of this historical event by organizing an immersive medieval festival every summer that transports visitors into the military and civilian life of the 15th century.

A Life-Sized Medieval Camp

At the heart of the festival, a meticulously recreated medieval camp by living history enthusiasts offers a dive into the daily life of the Middle Ages:

  • Camp Life: Reenactors present the daily life of soldiers and civilians in the 15th century: food, clothing, weaponry, medicine.
  • Medieval Crafts: Blacksmiths, weavers, illuminators, and other artisans demonstrate the ancestral techniques of their trades.
  • Weaponry and Armor: Exhibition and demonstration of weapons and armor used during the Battle of Azincourt: English longbows, swords, axes, plate armor.

Tournaments and Combat

The highlights of the festival are the combat shows and tournaments:

  • Armored Foot Combat Tournament (1 p.m.): Armored fighters clash with swords, axes, and lances, demonstrating the combat techniques of the era.
  • Equestrian Tournaments (2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.): Armored riders compete in jousts and equestrian skill games in a spectacular show.
  • Artillery Demonstration: Bombards and other medieval artillery pieces are presented and put into action.

Falconry and Birds of Prey Show

Falconers present their birds of prey—falcons, buzzards, owls—in free-flight demonstrations that fascinate young and old alike.

Nocturnal Fire Show

On Saturday evening, the festival concludes with a fire show combining pyrotechnics, dance, and illuminations. A grand finale that sets the Azincourt night ablaze in a magical and memorable atmosphere.
