The Arpajon Christmas Market, Place du Marché, with inflatable sled, carriage, and festive entertainment
The Arpajon Christmas Market takes over the Place du Marché and the Town Hall forecourt every mid-December. Giant decorated bubbles, an inflatable sled, the presence of Santa Claus, food trucks, and fairground games make up a festive and family weekend in this medieval town in Essonne, renowned for its famous Bean Fair.
Every mid-December, the town of Arpajon (91290) adorns itself in festive attire to host its Christmas Market on the Place du Marché, one of the most beautiful medieval squares in Essonne. This festive and family event also extends to the Town Hall forecourt and the streets of the town center, offering visitors an exceptional historic setting for their Christmas shopping.
The market weekend offers a varied entertainment program. Four giant bubbles decorated by the traders' association are set up on the Town Hall forecourt, creating a magical and colorful atmosphere. An inflatable sled is available for children's enjoyment. Fairground games and a show caravan complete the setup. A horse-drawn carriage, organized by the traders' association, offers children rides around the town center. Santa Claus is, of course, present, and face painting is offered to the youngest.
The Arpajon Christmas Market hosts numerous exhibitors offering artisanal products, original creations, and gift ideas for all tastes and budgets. Food trucks complement the gourmet offerings: churros, crepes, and other sweet specialties are available on the Town Hall forecourt from December 10th to 23rd by the Dunas food truck, extending the Christmas magic beyond the main weekend. Mulled wine and hot drinks warm visitors on cold December days.
The festivities are not limited to the market weekend alone. Entertainment is scheduled in the town center from November 28th to December 28th, including street performances and one-off events organized in conjunction with the traders' association. This extended period allows all residents of Arpajon and visitors to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere throughout December.
A town of some 10,000 inhabitants, Arpajon is known throughout the department for its Bean Fair, one of the oldest fairs in France. Its Christmas market is part of this festive tradition rooted in local identity. The Place du Marché, with its medieval arcades and 17th-century market hall, offers a remarkable architectural setting that enhances the enchanting character of the event.
