About Metz Plage

Metz Plage transforms the Plan d'Eau into an urban seaside resort every summer. For six weeks, a sandy beach, swimming pools, aquapark, treetop adventure course, and zip line are complemented by a program of sports and cultural activities. La Paillote, an ephemeral guinguette, hosts concerts and DJ sets all summer long.

The Sea in Metz

Metz Plage is the city of Metz's summer response for those who don't go on vacation – and for those who want to extend the holiday spirit in the heart of the city. Since 2009, the Plan d'Eau de Metz, a vast body of water south of the city, transforms every summer into a complete urban seaside resort, with fine sandy beaches, swimming areas, water games, and activities for all ages. Entirely free, Metz Plage embodies the city's commitment to offering quality leisure activities accessible to everyone.

Water and Sports Activities

The heart of Metz Plage lies in its water activities: supervised swimming pools, an aquapark with inflatable modules on the water, a zip line flying over the body of water, and various water sports. On land, sports fields allow for beach volleyball, pétanque, badminton, and other beach sports. The treetop adventure course, with its courses in the trees, complements the outdoor activity offerings.

La Paillote: The Summer Guinguette

La Paillote is the ephemeral guinguette of Metz Plage, the true convivial heart of the event. Set up with garden lounges, deckchairs, and picnic tables, it offers a varied food and drink selection and, above all, a musical program throughout the summer: karaoke nights every Thursday, DJ sets every Friday, and concerts showcasing local talent every Saturday.

Cultural and Wellness Activities

Metz Plage is not just about sports and water activities. A program of cultural activities enriches the offerings: creative workshops, readings, games, and themed events punctuate the summer. Wellness Days offer meditation, tai-chi, yoga, sophrology, and relaxation workshops, providing a peaceful counterpoint to the more dynamic activities.

A Free and Inclusive Event

Access to Metz Plage is completely free, making it a profoundly inclusive event. This total freeness, maintained since its first edition, allows all Metz families to enjoy a summer of leisure and relaxation without financial barriers. The site's accessibility and the diversity of activities offered make Metz Plage a place of social and intergenerational mixing.

The Plan d'Eau, Metz's Green Lung

The Plan d'Eau de Metz, located in the Sablon district south of the city, is a vast green and water space that forms the metropolis's green lung. Surrounded by lawns, walking paths, and playgrounds, it offers a pleasant natural setting perfectly suited for its summer transformation into an urban beach. Its proximity to the city center and easy access by public transport contribute to the event's success.

Metz Plage — edition 2026

18th edition of Metz Plage, from July 4th to August 16th, 2026, every day from 11 am to 8 pm at the Plan d'Eau de Metz. The City of Metz renews its free summer urban beach: supervised natural swimming, sandy beach, aquatic and sports activities, family entertainment, and the La Paillote guinguette.

Metz Plage 2026: The Urban Beach at Plan d'Eau

For its 18th edition, Metz Plage will be held from July 4th to August 16th, 2026, at the Plan d'Eau de Metz, every day from 11 am to 8 pm. Access is free for all beachgoers. After welcoming nearly 130,000 visitors in 2025, the unmissable summer event of the City of Metz returns with the improvements implemented since 2023.

Natural Swimming and Aquatic Activities

Natural swimming is maintained, with a reinforced installation on the Hildegarde point offering more shade and easier access for people with reduced mobility. In 2026, the City is making an additional effort regarding public reception conditions, with more seating, more shaded areas, and the development of aquatic activities.

The Guinguette and Entertainment

A guinguette offers food and musical entertainment throughout the summer. The program is built each year with partner clubs and associations, which offer free discovery and introductory activities, either occasional or recurring. The Football World Cup will be a highlight of summer 2026 and will be particularly featured in the program.
